This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Line Maintenance Division of the Utilities Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. Employees of this classification perform work of a specialized nature, involving installation, repair and maintenance of a water distribution system. The skills and knowledge required can be acquired on the job. The worker is part of a crew. Crew members work in close proximity to one another, while completing assigned tasks, requiring cooperative effort. The employee must follow safety regulations and procedures specific to each work environment and assigned tasks. Work will include occasional contact with the public to answer questions specific to the crew's function with the supervisor present to respond to unusual situations. Upon receipt of oral and written instructions from the immediate supervisor, the worker completes assigned tasks. Essential job functions include: Performing a variety of routine maintenance and servicing operations for the City's water distribution system. Installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing activities are performed on complex water meters, water lines, water valves, fire hydrants and other system components.
