Manufacturing Engineer Summer Intern Position Summary The Manufacturing Engineer Summer Intern supports daily manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives within a production environment. This internship provides hands‑on experience in manufacturing processes, process improvement, data analysis, quality systems, and cross‑functional teamwork. The intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers, production supervisors, quality, maintenance, and operations teams to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. Key Responsibilities Assist manufacturing engineers with process improvement projects and production support activities. Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities. Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, waste reduction, and standard work development. Help develop and update work instructions, process documentation, and visual management tools. Participate in root cause analysis and problem‑solving activities related to quality or production issues. Conduct time studies and process observations to improve workflow and labor efficiency. Support equipment layout, line balancing, and manufacturing process optimization projects. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including operations, quality, maintenance, and supply chain. Assist with implementation of safety and ergonomic improvements. Prepare reports and presentations summarizing project progress and results. Perform other engineering and operational support tasks as assigned. Qualifications Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Familiarity with CAD software, lean manufacturing principles, or statistical analysis tools is a plus. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma concepts. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and production systems. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience with data analysis tools or ERP systems is a plus. Work Environment Manufacturing plant and office environment. May require standing, walking production floors, and wearing required PPE. Internship Duration Internship duration typically ranges from 10–12 weeks during the summer.
