Genetic Counselor Assistant

Responsibilities Compose and manage correspondence—including e‑mails, record requests and laboratory reviews—using appropriate software applications. Prepare the patient chart before clinic visits by gathering documentation, updating the EMR, and notifying participants of any changes. Assist patients, families and others with hospital‑related inquiries or concerns and manage incoming phone calls and e‑mails related to genetic services and referrals. Provide administrative support to the department, coordinating and organizing clinic workflow and communications, including phone management, e‑mail correspondence, file maintenance and chart preparation to optimize clinic efficiency. Rotate as a medical scribe during patient interviews and examinations: document patient history, physical findings, laboratory and radiologic results, time of care activities, support EHR navigation, research requested information, and ensure practitioner review and authentication of documentation. Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Qualifications Education Required: 1‑2 years of post‑high‑school education. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a biological or health science. Experience Preferred: Minimum of 2 years medical experience in a hospital setting or private practice. Required: Experience and understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments sufficient to transcribe dictated reports accurately. Required: Ability to translate medical abbreviations into expanded forms. Special Skills Required: Ability to multi‑task, communicate professionally, write routine reports and correspondence, type efficiently, and possess excellent spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication skills. Ability to listen, summarize complex medical information, and produce polished English composition at a high rate of production. Required: Ability to learn and use all functions of electronic medical record and transcription software and to maintain a team‑approach to patient care and documentation. Required: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, interdepartmental contacts, patients, and families. Required: Punctuality and preparedness for all shifts and work‑related activities. Required: Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail; ability to be self‑motivated, discreet, tactful, and modest in performance of duties.
