General Statement of the Job & Essential Functions
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing a safe, aquatic environment at various pool locations. Reports to the Lead Lifeguard or Recreation Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts patron surveillance at various pool locations; administers CPR/First Aid, utilizes Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and performs water rescues as needed; assists in managing facility operations, to include, testing of pool chemistry, cleaning duties, facility maintenance and program registration; assists with the implementation of daily aquatic programs, activities and events.
Ensures the safety of facility patrons; conducts safety inspections of aquatic areas; enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals utilizing the facilities; and promotes water safety.
Completes required reports and documentation such as daily logs, and accident or incident reports; conducts in-service training for Lifeguards and documents results; interacts with the public and responds to inquiries; and provides assistance as needed to departmental staff and others outside the unit with special projects, events and/or performances; performs maintenance at swimming pools.
Performs other related work as required. Individual assignments will be determined by supervisor based on current workload and department needs. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Exercise immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interacts with all departments, co-workers and the general public.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Requires 1 -2 seasons of experience as a Lifeguard or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position requires the following certifications, from the American Red Cross or an equivalent agency: First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguarding.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation; pre-employment substance abuse testing and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history and sex offender registry check.

Some combination of climbing and balancing to include walking, swimming, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
