Position OverviewThis role calls for a blend of advanced technical expertise, people leadership, and business acumen. The ideal candidate is results-driven, proactive, and capable of independently leading initiatives while balancing client expectations, timelines, and financial objectives. The position involves periods of focused analytical work, standard physical endurance, and frequent travel. Work is primarily performed in a professional office setting with minimal exposure to environmental hazards.The responsibilities of this role span three core functional areas: Technical Advancement, Operational Leadership, and Market Growth. These functions align with the organization's executive structure and provide a pathway for career progression into senior technical and practice leadership roles.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Advancement & InnovationIdentify and evaluate emerging tools, systems, and methodologies that support innovation, efficiency, and technical excellence.Contribute to internal technology and innovation councils by reviewing and recommending investments that strengthen competitive positioning.Establish technical direction, standards, and long-term vision for the assigned practice area.Collaborate with peer leaders to promote consistent application of best practices across disciplines.Select and develop subject-matter leaders within the practice, setting goals and measuring performance through annual development planning.Build and maintain a forward-looking talent framework to assess skill depth and support future hiring needs.Provide mentorship and coaching to staff within areas of specialization.Assist market and leadership teams in evaluating technical capabilities and workforce skill alignment.Review and approve technical abstracts, white papers, and publication requests.Business Growth & Client EngagementPartner with senior leadership to support long-range growth strategies driven by technical differentiation.Work closely with market leaders to expand existing client relationships and cultivate new opportunities to meet growth targets.Lead efforts to introduce innovative solutions to internal teams and clients through workshops, seminars, and targeted presentations.Contribute to proposal strategies by shaping technical narratives, ensuring clarity, compliance, and competitive positioning.Participate in client meetings, presentations, and pursuit activities as a technical resource.Strengthen industry visibility by engaging in professional associations, contributing to publications, and presenting at conferences.Encourage and support team members in professional involvement and thought leadership activities.Operational LeadershipProvide expert technical input to active projects and strategic initiatives.Collaborate with market leaders to define hiring priorities and lead recruitment efforts for specialized technical talent.Conduct annual evaluations of staff capabilities to identify training, development, and project delivery needs.Drive continuous improvement initiatives through coordination with market leadership.Support organizational standards by developing, maintaining, and updating design criteria and delivery guidelines, including client-specific standards where required.Coordinate with project leadership and quality teams to ensure appropriate technical oversight and quality assurance.Monitor regulatory changes and communicate relevant impacts to affected practice areas.Promote cross-training and knowledge transfer within the practice.Oversee planning and participation in technical training programs and industry conferences, including goal-setting, outcomes tracking, and post-event knowledge sharing.Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.Uphold and promote workplace safety standards.QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline requiredLicensureActive Professional Engineer (PE) license requiredExperienceMinimum of 15
