Toddler Montessori GuideAbout the Role

Brazos Learning Montessori School in Richwood, Texas is seeking an experienced, dependable, and nurturing Toddler Montessori Guide to join our early childhood education team.

Our Toddler Guides play an important role in creating a peaceful, consistent, and intentionally prepared environment for children 18 months to 3 years of age . This is a significant period of growth as children develop language, movement, independence, social awareness, self-regulation, and confidence.

We are looking for an early childhood professional who understands that working with toddlers requires much more than providing loving care. It requires patience, observation, consistency, appropriate boundaries, purposeful redirection, professionalism, and a strong understanding of early childhood development.

The ideal candidate understands that toddlers are learning how to function independently within a community and is prepared to guide them with warmth, consistency, respect, and clear expectations.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a calm, respectful, safe, and intentionally prepared Montessori classroom environment .

• Provide attentive and developmentally appropriate care and guidance for children between 18 months and 3 years of age.

• Present and model Montessori lessons that support Practical Life, Sensorial exploration, language development, movement, independence, concentration, and coordination .

• Encourage children to develop independence with everyday tasks such as handwashing, dressing, eating, cleaning, carrying materials, putting away belongings, and caring for their classroom environment.

• Support children through toilet learning in a patient, respectful, consistent, and developmentally appropriate manner.

• Model and teach Grace & Courtesy , including gentle hands, walking in the classroom, taking turns, respecting another child's work, caring for materials, using appropriate language, and beginning conflict-resolution skills.

• Observe children carefully and use those observations to determine appropriate lessons, classroom supports, and developmental goals.

• Support emerging language and communication skills through conversation, vocabulary, songs, stories, Montessori language materials, and appropriate modeling.

• Respond appropriately to common toddler behaviors such as biting, hitting, pushing, throwing, tantrums, difficulty sharing space, and other developmentally appropriate challenges through observation, prevention, redirection, and consistent guidance.

• Maintain active supervision at all times and remain engaged and aware of children's interactions throughout the classroom and outdoor environments.

• Document children's developmental progress, classroom activities, incidents, routines, and other required information accurately and consistently.

• Communicate professionally, respectfully, and consistently with parents and guardians regarding their child's development and classroom experience.

• Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary, beautiful, and developmentally appropriate prepared environment.

• Rotate and maintain classroom materials based on children's developmental needs, interests, and readiness.

• Follow all health, safety, sanitation, licensing, and school procedures.

• Collaborate respectfully with co-guides, assistants, support staff, and school administration.

• Attend required staff meetings, professional development, Montessori training, and school events as assigned.

• Complete all required licensing documentation, annual training, certifications, and assigned professional development by established deadlines.

• Receive and appropriately implement feedback, coaching, classroom observations, and guidance from school leadership.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:

• Minimum of three (3) years of verifiable professional experience working in a licensed childcare center, preschool, Montessori school, or early childhood education setting.

• Previous professional experience working directly with toddlers between approximately 18 months and 3 years of age is strongly preferred.
  
  
• Must meet all Texas Child Care Regulation background check and employment eligibility requirements.
  
  
• Current CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain required certification within the school's established timeframe.

• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, early childhood education coursework, Montessori credential/training, or other relevant early childhood education is preferred.
  
  
• Previous Montessori experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates who demonstrate a genuine interest in Montessori education and a willingness to learn, receive training, accept feedback, and consistently implement Montessori practices will be considered.

• Must demonstrate an understanding of developmentally appropriate expectations and guidance for children under three.

• Must be willing and able to complete all state-required and school-required professional development and annual training.

Professional Expectations

Consistency is especially important during the toddler years. Children at this age rely on predictable routines, clear boundaries, familiar adults, and consistent responses from their caregivers and educators.

For this reason, dependability, attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and follow-through are essential requirements of this position.

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Consistent and reliable attendance and punctuality.

• Patience and emotional maturity when working with young children.

• The ability to remain calm, respectful, and composed during challenging behaviors or busy classroom periods.

• Professional and respectful communication with children, families, coworkers, and administration.

• Initiative and the ability to recognize classroom needs without requiring constant direction.

• Accountability for assigned responsibilities, documentation, training, and deadlines.

• Openness to constructive feedback, coaching, observations, training, and continued professional growth.

• Respect for school leadership, classroom roles, established procedures, and school policies.

• Appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.

• The ability to remain actively engaged with children throughout the workday.

• Responsible use of personal technology and adherence to the school's personal cell phone policies while responsible for children.

Physical Requirements

Working in a Toddler Montessori environment is active and hands-on. Candidates must be able to perform the essential physical responsibilities of the position, including:

• Sitting and working on the floor with children for extended periods.

• Frequently standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and transitioning between floor and standing positions.

• Safely lifting and carrying children and classroom materials as required.

• Assisting children with toileting, diapering when necessary, dressing, eating, handwashing, and other self-care routines.

• Cleaning and sanitizing classroom materials and environments as required.

• Actively supervising children indoors and outdoors throughout the workday.
