VP Data Science

As the VP of Data Science, you’ll play a critical role in building a data-driven culture and driving strategic initiatives. You’ll leverage a rich data-set built on a mature data pipeline that has captured millions of events a day over millions of users. You'll lead a nimble team that uses machine learning, predictive analytics, and engineering to partner with the product, marketing, operations & analytics to drive growth and further efficiencies. You'll be expected to creatively spearhead projects, possess the communication skills to collaborate with other teams, as well as the technical skills to deliver sophisticated projects from concept to production.

What you'll do:

· Ensure data best practices and play a critical role in building a data-driven culture throughout the entire organization

· Be a technical leader and mentor for the data science team, helping institute best engineering practices (coding standards, automated testing, CI/CD, scalability)

· Work with the leadership team in establishing a long-term vision for the company while building out a roadmap of data science development and applications

· Conceive, develop, implement, and continually improve machine learning projects

· Use your creativity and intuition to help find and solve the fun, challenging problems we work on every day

· Influence the development of additional capabilities to deliver business outcomes through the use of automated algorithms on the platform

· Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and DevOps teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

· Manage and oversee an optimal data pipeline architecture

· Manage and oversee the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.

· Keep our data separated and secure

· Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems

· Work in a stack built primarily around Python, Airflow and AWS

What we're looking for:

· 10+ years in data science/machine learning experience

· 5+ years of managing a team of data scientists and/or data engineers

· Ability to combine traditional techniques and cutting-edge research to build innovative data-driven products

· Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases

· Experience in model deployment and scaling as well as deep learning networks

· Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets

· Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement

· Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets

· Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management

· A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets

· Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores

· Strong project management and organizational skills

· Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

· Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.

· MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field
