Job Title Head Women’s Golf Coach/Instructor in Physical Education Location Claremont, CA Responsibilities Lead a competitive varsity women’s golf program that promotes values of leadership, scholarship, teamwork, discipline, commitment, resilience, positive sportsmanship, and high ethical standards. Recruit and retain academically qualified student‑athletes to CMS’s highly selective liberal arts institutions (Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Scripps College). Oversee all administrative aspects of the women’s golf program, including budget management, prompt completion of administrative paperwork, and collaboration with CMS Athletics staff on sports medicine, business operations, compliance, equipment, events, facilities, and recreation. Schedule all contests and coordinate with other CMS coaches and staff for event management and golf course access for practice and competitions. Recruit, hire, and mentor assistant coaches; develop coaching staff to serve the goals and expectations of the CMS athletic program. Assist with building and maintaining relationships with alumni and other program supporters. Teach physical education courses required by the Physical Education program, engaging students outside the varsity teams in fitness and recreational activity classes. Represent the CMS Athletic Department and the women’s golf program at college events, faculty meetings, and in committee assignments for all three colleges. Represent the program in a positive manner within the SCIAC, regionally, and nationally. Maintain regular attendance; failure to meet attendance requirements may result in employment termination. Qualifications Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required; a master’s degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of three years of coaching experience, preferably at the college/university level; five or more years preferred. Licenses: Valid driver’s license; ability to be insured under the College’s authorized driver’s policy. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proven experience recruiting student‑athletes to highly selective institutions; strong administrative, interpersonal, and computer/technology skills; expertise in teaching physical education activity classes; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and associated professional software (e.g., CX CARS). Certifications: First Aid, CPR, AED. Other: Ability to comply with technology requirements for assessing and improving division/department systems and processes; excellent verbal and written communication; strong organizational and time‑management skills with keen attention to detail. Required Hours and Travel The regular hours for this full‑time position will vary, with flexibility to set work hours appropriate to the needs of the program. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. This is a 12‑month position. Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $75,000–$80,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
