Police Officer Certified/Certifiable 26-06

Position Overview Position for those who are currently Certified Police Officers or will graduate from a Police Academy by December 2026. Responsibilities Provide police services to the public and patrol city streets, enforce city ordinances and state laws. Interview complainants, suspects, and witnesses and testify in criminal, civil, or administrative court cases. Serve community policing duties—protect life and property within city limits, work with citizens to address problems, and improve police and community relations. Execute tactical operations throughout the city, including special events, foot, bike, uniformed or plainclothes and Segway patrols. Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Valid driver’s license and obtain a Michigan driver’s license by date of hire. High school diploma or GED. U.S. citizenship. Experience communicating with people under varying circumstances. Meet initial employment requirements established by the Civil Service Board. Pass the Grand Rapids Civil Service Exam for Police Officers. Meet all State of Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. Out-of-state certified officers must be eligible for MCOLES and have recognized prior training and experience. Assessment Process Entrance Exam (8 AM): National Criminal Justice Officer Selection Inventory. Oral Exam (10 AM–12 PM): Structured interview with Human Resources and Police personnel. Interview with Police Chief (1 – 5 PM). Personal History Questionnaire: Pending invitation from Guardian. Assessment dates: July 1, August 5, September 2, 2026.
