Clinician Scientist on the Clinician Educator or TenureTrack Location: Philadelphia, PA Open Date: Aug 31, 2026 Deadline: Aug 31, 2028 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at thePerelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seekscandidates for an Assistant Professor position in either thenon-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicantsmust have an M.D. or equivalencedegree. Teaching responsibilities may include the teaching and mentoring ofmedical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty, as wellas formal lecture opportunities within the department. Clinical responsibilities may include supervision of thedepartment's inpatient service as well as the opportunity toprovide outpatient clinical care in a department or community basedclinic setting, such as our school-based health clinic, our mobilecare program with partners, or in a variety of othercommunity-based clinical settings addressing the health care needsof populations that are at high risk of experiencing adverse healthoutcomes. Clinical effort will be structured to support thedevelopment and sustainability of an externally funded, independentresearch portfolio. Research or scholarship responsibilities may include establishingand maintaining an innovative, independent, and nationallyrecognized program of health policy research with direct relevanceto primary care and community health. Areas of focus may includethe design, evaluation, and reform of health care delivery systems;insurance coverage and access to care; primary care payment andworkforce policy; policies addressing health equity and the socialdeterminants of health; and federal, state, or local health policyaffecting underserved populations. The successful candidate will beexpected to develop a sustained program of federally fundedresearch and to collaborate with investigators across the PerelmanSchool of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania whilebuilding an independent national reputation in health policy. The department seeks an early-career clinician-scientist withdemonstrated potential to become a national leader in health policyresearch as it pertains to primary care and community health.Candidates must have an established record of scholarlyproductivity and evidence of successful federal research funding asPrincipal Investigator, Multiple Principal Investigator, orrecipient of a federal career development award. Competitiveapplicants will have current or prior support from agencies such asthe National Institutes of Health (NIH), Agency for HealthcareResearch and Quality (AHRQ), Centers for Disease Control andPrevention (CDC), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA),Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), or comparablefederal funding agencies, with a demonstrated trajectory towardsustained independent funding. Applicants should have a strongrecord of peer-reviewed publications commensurate with career stageand a clear commitment to advancing the science of primary carethrough rigorous, impactful research.
