Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit requiring 2+ years of high-volume L&D experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in a high-risk Labor and Delivery / Birthing Care Unit within a hospital setting
• Unit averages 20 births per 24 hours with 30-40 admits and 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
• Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as select high-risk patients under 16 weeks
• Includes an obstetrical triage area for screening prior to admission and routine outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
• Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
• Double labor assignments occur daily on this unit
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
• Facility averages more than 300 births per month
• 2:1 patient ratio
• Required to work every other weekend, minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Floating required as needed within or near the facility
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting/communication systems
• Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required, 3 years preferred
• Experience in a high-volume facility (>300 births/month) or similar large, high-volume setting required
• Required certifications: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP (AWHONN Advanced preferred; C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN)
• Required skills: circulating for C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, and competent immediate newborn care
• Epic charting experience required
• Experience with antepartum care and procedures, OCT, obstetrical triage, and IV therapy/phlebotomy preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and neonatal/infant arrest response preferred

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care across intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum stages
• Perform triage, pain assessment and management, and isolation precautions/PPE protocols
• Unit orientation is 24 hours, conducted weekly
• Scrubs (blue) are provided
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have experience in a large, high-volume similar setting
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at time of application
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; no additional RTO permitted after booking
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
• Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility must choose either travel or per diem status, not both
