Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care - Critical Care (Nights)

UTHealth is seeking a dedicated Full‑Time Advanced Practice Provider (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care or Physician Assistant) to join the Department of Internal Medicine in Houston, TX. In this role, you will provide high‑quality patient care in a clinic or hospital setting, supporting one or more specialized service areas under the direction of a primary care physician. Key Accountabilities Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures that would otherwise be performed by a physician but do not constitute the practice of medicine. Coordinate, direct, and implement patients’ plan of care. Order, conduct, and interpret pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies. Perform physical examinations and provide episodic or problem‑oriented care under physician supervision. Order appropriate laboratory tests and interpret results. Monitor treatment program and inform attending physician of pertinent medical information. Make medical recommendations and/or referrals. Formulate, implement, and evaluate an outcome‑based treatment plan. Maintain appropriate records detailing patients’ treatment plans and outcomes. Facilitate patient education regarding medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Collaborate with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in recovery. Perform other duties as assigned. Certifications / Skills For Nurse Practitioner: Current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse and as an APRN‑NP, plus specialty certification required by department; Basic Life Support (BLS) certified. For Physician Assistant: Current Texas licensure as a Physician Assistant, national certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; Basic Life Support (BLS) certified; proficiency in use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment required for the role. Minimum Education Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or completion of a post‑master Nurse Practitioner Certification Program. Physician Assistant: Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of professional experience in the role.
