Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

This position involves working in a Labor and Delivery unit. The unit consists of four LDRP beds. There is one OR suite available for C-sections. The unit has two triage beds and three postpartum beds. The average number of births is 0-2 per day, totaling about 200 per year. The facility follows AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios as much as possible for a rural hospital. Candidates are required to have ALS, NRP, and AWHONN EFM certifications. Common patient diagnoses include pregnant women, newborns, and GYN surgical patients. Candidates do not need to be able to circulate C-sections or manage post-op GYN patients. RNs are required to titrate drips, commonly including Pitocin. The charge nurse takes an assignment and works alongside one other nurse on shift. There are no nurse aids or surgical techs on this unit. OBs are not in-house but have a 20-minute response time and are on-call after hours. Anesthesia is available during regular business hours and is on-call after hours, with a 20-minute response time. Respiratory therapy is called to deliveries, but staffing issues may mean they are not always present. The unit uses an EFM system for monitoring. Self-scheduling is allowed; however, staff may be moved for unit needs. Weekend work requirement includes half of all weekends. Holiday requirements include working half of winter holidays. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating is rare, with occasional help needed in MedSurg. Scrubs are not provided, and there is no specific color requirement. The cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. This role is situated within an acute care setting.
