Pay Range: $48,000 - $60,000 The pay range is based on consideration of criteria such as required qualifications, experience, education and skills. Marquette Bank reserves the right to offer the selected applicant a salary commensurate with the applicant's qualification, experience, education and skills. Position Summary The Assistant Vice President - Trust Officer is responsible for all aspects of personal trust administration. This role serves as the primary client contact for assigned accounts, ensuring account retention and identifying opportunities for new business. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administer personal trust accounts, including estates, trusts, guardianships, and agencies (including IRAs), in accordance with governing documents. Collaborate with the New Business Officer during onboarding of new accounts and engage early with clients, attorneys, accountants, and caregiving agencies. Serve as primary relationship manager for onboarded accounts, maintaining continuous contact with clients, attorneys, and beneficiaries, and scheduling annual client meetings. Manage post-death processes, including requesting new tax IDs, updating date-of-death values, transferring or liquidating assets, confirming beneficiaries, discussing tax consequences, and coordinating distributions. Interpret trust documents and provisions accurately. Correspond with courts as required, including attending hearings when necessary. Assist with managing the VLAS Pooled Patriot Trust program. Manage Guardianship and Trust & Estate administration matters. Assist with the department tax return process (1041/1040). Oversee annual administrative and investment review processes. Manage real estate within trust accounts. Coordinate account closing processes. Ensure compliance with internal fiduciary policies and documentation requirements; assist with audits by maintaining organized files and documentation. Maintain accurate records and communication logs, including open and closing checklists. Oversee annual accounting processes, review distributions, prepare required minimum distributions, and complete account reviews and discretionary distribution documentation. Monitor and approve daily transactions to ensure accuracy and correct overdrafts. Ensure account activity complies with established policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintain understanding of trust taxation and implications of distributions; file tax returns timely. Actively comply with all applicable laws and regulations to include the Bank Secrecy Act, the Community Reinvestment Act, and all other deposit, lending, or non-deposit service regulations; adhering to the Bank's internal policies, procedures, and risk management responsibilities contained in the Employee Handbook, the Employee Code of Conduct, and other applicable policies. Perform job-related responsibilities that support departmental and organizational goals, consistent with the scope and purpose of the position. Knowledge/Abilities/Experience and Training Required Bachelor's Degree, paralegal certificate or Cannon or ABA trust school graduate. 5 to 8 years of experience in trust administration. Strong technical skills in fiduciary administration and knowledge of estate, gift, GST, and fiduciary income tax. Ability to review and interpret legal documents. Analytical and systematic approach to problem-solving. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently. Excellent communication skills, including experience with new business presentations. Ability to work closely with attorneys, CPAs, and caregiving agencies. Maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners. Ability to handle sensitive business situations professionally. Commitment to continuing education to stay current in fiduciary industry changes. Familiarity with trust accounting systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
