Job Title: Inspector Job Description

The Inspector plays a key role in ensuring that plastic parts meet strict quality and visual standards before they are shipped to customers. This position focuses on detailed visual inspection and gauge testing of parts, accurate sorting and packing, and clear communication with supervision to maintain high levels of product quality and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Visually inspect and check plastic parts to verify they meet established quality and visual standards.

• Identify and reject parts that do not meet standards due to issues such as quality defects, visual imperfections, incorrect color, burrs, chips, flashes, and cuts.

• Separate nonconforming parts from acceptable parts to prevent defective products from moving forward in the process.

• Notify the inspection supervisor promptly when products do not meet quality requirements or when recurring issues are observed.

• Use fixed gauges, including radial, plug, and thickness gauges, to test and verify product measurements according to specifications.

• Perform gauge inspections at the required rate per hour while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

• Conduct 100% inspections either visually or using gauges, following training and established procedures.

• Pack inspected parts and items into boxes, ensuring correct quantities and proper arrangement.

• Inspect packaging dividers and materials to prevent damage to plastic parts based on their size, shape, and color.

• Count, sort, and verify parts and packaging to maintain accurate records and inventory control.

• Document work performed, including inspection results and any issues found, according to company procedures.

• Handle and lift materials and boxes as needed, including lifting items up to 50 lbs. in a safe manner.

• Follow all safety requirements, including wearing steel toe boots and using proper lifting techniques.

• Operate machines and measuring equipment as needed to support inspection and production processes.

• Collaborate with coworkers in a small team environment and support a positive, cooperative workplace.

• Provide informal team guidance or supervision support when needed, leveraging prior team lead or supervision experience.

Essential Skills

• Experience visually inspecting products for quality and visual defects.

• Ability to identify issues such as color variations, burrs, chips, flashes, and cuts on plastic parts.

• Hands-on experience using measuring tools and gauges, including radial, plug, and thickness gauges.

• Experience with machine operating and measuring in a production or manufacturing environment.

• Ability to perform accurate counting, sorting, and verification of parts and packaging.

• Packing experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.

• Capability to document work clearly and accurately, including inspection results.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.

• Must have and wear steel toe boots while working.

• Ability to read and write in English to follow work instructions and complete documentation.

• Team lead or supervision experience in a production or similar environment.

• Attention to detail and strong focus on product quality and consistency.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bilingual abilities are a strong plus, particularly the ability to communicate in English and another language.

• Comfort working in a smaller plastic manufacturing facility with a warm environment.

• Ability to work effectively in a team of approximately 25 people and contribute to a collaborative culture.

• Willingness to learn and be trained on specific gauges and inspection procedures.

• Reliability and punctuality for a consistent 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. schedule.

Work Environment

This role is based in a smaller plastic manufacturing facility with relatively new, state-of-the-art machinery and equipment. Approximately 25 people work in the shop, creating a close, team-oriented atmosphere where coworkers generally get along well. Because it is a plastic manufacturing environment, the facility can be a bit warmer than a typical office setting. The standard work schedule is approximately 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will spend most of your time on the production floor performing visual inspections, using gauges, operating measuring equipment, and packing parts. Steel toe boots are required as part of the dress code to ensure safety while handling materials and working around machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of BRIDGEVIEW, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
