Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. You’ll work with K-12 learners, supporting their educational goals and helping each student achieve independence and academic success. This contract role is ideal for educators dedicated to providing tailored instruction and ensuring students with visual impairments have full access to the curriculum and campus life.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification
- Previous experience working with children or youth with visual impairments preferred
- Strong understanding of Braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible educational materials
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families, and other educators
- Flexibility and creativity in adapting instruction to meet diverse learner needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive instruction tailored to students with visual impairments across grade levels
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to the evaluation process for appropriate services
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide accommodations and modify classroom materials
- Instruct students in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, assistive technology, and self-advocacy
- Communicate regularly with families, support staff, and school administration regarding student progress and needs
- Maintain detailed records and participate in IEP meetings, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements
