POSITION SUMMARY: Mechanic II is a journeyman level position in one of the trades, Electrician, Plumber, HVAC, Mechanic, Stationary Engineer, carpenter/painter or related field, but does not have a license or certification in the trade. May provide installation not requiring permits within the trade, corrective, preventive, maintenance, troubleshooting and major repairs of either of recognized trades. Responsible for all codes and regulatory requirements of the trades. May be assigned oversee work performed by mechanic 1 position. Subject to on call and call back. Has authority to call in other trades under maintenance agreements to respond during emergencies from emergency call list posted in the Plant Operations Shop.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function of the journeyman level trade satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.

· Installs and repairs drywall and metal studs.

· Calculates quantity of materials needed and other supplies for estimates and to complete an assigned small construction project.

· Measures and cuts to size floor tiles, formica counter tops, ceiling tiles, window glass when installing or replacing items.

· Prepares surface and applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, or enamels to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimming, and fixtures of the facility.

· Reviews work orders and immediately report to director any orders, which cannot be completed in a timely manner.

· Assists in maintaining a clean, safe and organized work area.

· Follows established patient safety guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.

· Participates in the Hospital Equipment Utilities Program. Performs preventive maintenance and maintains records of same as assigned following JCAHO guidelines.

· Immediately identifies and informs Manager of Plant Operations of any malfunctioning equipment.

· Demonstrates working knowledge and ability to perform limited assignments in air-conditioning, electrical and plumbing.

· Reports thefts, personal and hospital damage, and accidents and assists with investigation as necessary.

· Assists as needed in security-related incidents following security policies and procedures.

· Responds to Hospital Codes following the Emergency Kardex System.

· Responsible for repairs, installation, troubleshooting replacement, testing of equipment or systems at the journeyman level to the specific trade hired in accordance with the codes and standards related to the trade. Provides record keeping of systems as required by the regulatory agencies having jurisdiction for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, stationary engineering or related trade in accordance to industry standard for the health care environment.

· Maintains records of systems related to the trade, reporting to the Supervisor of Plant Operations for inclusion in JCAHO EOC utilities or Life Safety programs as required by AHCA or JCAHO.

· Maintains nurse call system, including head wall units, bedside controls, and all associated equipment. Completes these assignments keeping accurate PM records for review. Performs medium electrical repairs, which include cutting, bending and installing electrical conduit and wire.

· Maintains interior and exterior lighting.

· Performs general maintenance and medium construction functions throughout facility as directed following all state, local and national codes.

· Strives to reduce maintenance and utility costs through improved operational procedures.

· Reviews work orders and immediately report to director any orders which cannot be completed in a timely manner.

· Assists in maintaining a clean, safe and organized work area.

· Legibly records data as required on equipment logs.

· Replaces ceiling tiles and performs hardware maintenance on doors, windows and associated equipment, following local, state and national codes, giving particular attention where ADA codes apply.

· Performs other duties as assigned/requested.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: · High school diploma or equivalent · Trade school strongly preferred · Applicable work experience may substitute for education

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION PREFERRED: None

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: 4-5 years experience specific to trade and/or responsibilities at the journeyman level. Trade school may substitute for 2 years.
