Foreman
The Foreman is responsible for leading the crew of millwrights in the installation, maintenance, repair, and dismantling of industrial machinery. They act as the primary link between project management and the field workforce, ensuring that tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to high precision.
Typical responsibilities and duties include:
- Receives instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection work to be done.
- Inspects plant/refinery equipment for defects, such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, etc.
- Determines the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
- Advises when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
- Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles, and lubricates mechanical equipment.
- Adjusts equipment for proper operating characteristics.
- Makes either temporary or permanent repairs.
- Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, and shafts involving the application of press, sliding, and running fits.
- Operates simple machine tools, such as drill press, pipe-threading machine, and power saw.
- Changes, sets up and adjusts equipment as required by current operating conditions.
- Works with repair crews as directed on emergency breakdowns.
Skills, knowledge, qualifications, and experience required include:
- Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
- General knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to assemble, install, and test machines and equipment to make sure they are working correctly.
- Ability to use machinery or equipment, such as forklifts to move mechanical parts.
- Experience overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing defective pieces and lubricating mechanical parts.
- Ability to manage the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime.
- Ability to pass the Millwright Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
- Completion of the Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
- Maintenance of an active status within the DISA drug testing program.
Physical requirements include:
- Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
- Must be able to hear, speak, understand, and communicate effectively. May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50lbs.
- May be required to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols.
- Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind; and must be able to work for long periods of times up to 12 hours a day.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
Hiring range: $46.00 per hour. Full range for this position, available overtime: $46.00 hour.
