Machinist

This role involves hands-on machining, minor edits, and setup of 3, 4, 5 axis mills, lathes, and Swiss machines. You will need to accurately read drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions. A solid working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on different machines is essential. You should be able to use mathematical skills to calculate material, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra. The ability to set priorities and efficiently advance projects to achieve customer and quality objectives is crucial. You will work independently and follow through with assignments with minimal supervision, adhering to safety and quality standards, and reporting and correcting all issues.

Responsibilities

• Calculate dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
• Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
• Consistently maintain clean and orderly equipment, work centers, and overall production floor.
• Take immediate action to solve out-of-tolerance parts, quality issues or other problems by adjusting the machine, asking for assistance, or alerting your lead or manager.
• Meet or exceed productivity and scrap goals while maintaining accurate counts of parts and completing required documentation.
• Suggest and support implementation of ideas to improve safety, quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
• Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Work overtime as required.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) callouts.
• Knowledge of precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales.
• Adaptability to changing environments and competing demands.
• Critical thinking and advanced decision-making skills.
• Ability to identify different materials and their relationship to design.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and document work instructions, blueprints, routers, and standard operating procedures.
• Ability to collaborate and assist team members.
• Compliance with 5S and safe work environment practices.
• Effective communication and interaction skills.
• Experience with CNC or applicable machines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in an ISO/FDA job shop preferred.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.
• Wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety glasses and hearing protection.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.

Work Environment

The work environment is a manufacturing plant where 100% of the time is spent. Employees will wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection. The facility complies with 5S and safe work environment practices. Shifts include day and night options, with first shift running from 6 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and second shift from 4:30 PM to 3:20 AM. Weekend shifts are available, both day and night, with compensation for 40 hours of work. Employees will rotate from days to 2nd shift after 2-3 months, with a shift differential for working the 2nd shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Athens, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $42.00/hr.
