Medical Assistant Position at The Cancer Prevention CenterSeeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our team in The Cancer Prevention Center. Our center offers a range of services to help you learn how to reduce your cancer risk or to detect cancer early - when it's most treatable. Cancer screening exams are based on age, gender and disease risk. We also offer risk assessment, risk reduction and diagnostic evaluation services.The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience. CMA / RMA certification preferred.The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm and may require rotation to all CPC locations.MD Anderson offers employees:Paid employee medical benefits (zero premium) starting on first day for employees who work 30 or more hours per week.Group Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D and Disability coverage.Paid time off (PTO) and Extended Illness Bank (EIB) paid leave accruals.Paid institutional holidays, wellness leave, childcare leave, and other paid leave programs.Tuition Assistance Program after six months of service.Teachers Retirement System defined-benefit pension plan and two voluntary retirement plans.Employer paid life, AD&D and an illness-related reduced salary pay program.Extensive wellness, recognition, fitness, employee health programs and employee resource groups.Opportunities for professional growth through Career Development Center and Mentoring programs.Key FunctionsAssisting with Nursing and Multidisciplinary Team:Participates in the rooming of patients.Collect patient data and accurately document in the electronic medical record.Report any abnormal findings to the clinical nurse or provider.Assist the providers during procedures, as applicable per center guidelines.Aids with completion of patient forms.Quality and Safe Patient Care:Consistently provide excellent customer service.Ensure patient's safety and confidentiality at all times.Aid in completion of activities of daily living, mobility, transfer and grooming.Ensure that instruments and supplies are available in the exam rooms at all times.Available for patient to assist with provider during examination and procedures.Communicate with the nurse any reported or observed patient care needs.Work Environment:Prepare clinic day as outlined by the center. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe working environment.Cleans and prepares exam rooms between each patient.Ensure that instruments/equipment/machines needed for patient care are available and in good working order.Restock supplies in the work and patient care areas daily.Turn on the computers in the morning and log off at the end of the clinic.Replenish education materials in patient care areas daily.Partners with Clinical Care Team/Effective Communication:Responsibilities include completion of routine or advanced patient care assignments.Identifies critical changes to patient status and reports concerns to appropriate nursing staff and physicians.Works with multidisciplinary team members to identify and address patient care needs.Effectively and professionally resolves conflict with team members, provides and receives timely feedback to ensure collaboration and positively impact patient care and patient satisfaction scores.Participates in team and peer evaluations.EducationRequired: High School Diploma or Equivalent andPreferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program including externship/practicum. orPreferred: Graduate of a U.S. Military medical services training program.Work ExperienceRequired: 1 year Medical Assistant experience. orRequired: No experience required with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (including externship/practicum) or U.S. Military medical training.Licenses and CertificationsPreferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire andPreferred: CMA - Certified Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
