TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.Position DescriptionThe Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery is seeking Trauma Acute Care Surgeons to join our growing division. Our ACS teams, covering two major tertiary referral hospitals, receive a large number of emergency general surgery, trauma and burn patients from the entire West Texas/ Eastern New Mexico region; our Level 1 trauma center is in the top decile for penetrating trauma among TQIP centers in the nation. This large, high acuity patient volume affords an excellent variety of surgical experience, and a great opportunity for clinical/outcomes research and education. All ACS surgeons follow a 12 hour shift model, with no 24 hour call. This model allows for work-life integration and time for administrative roles, education and research.The department is active in both basic science and clinical research, and our medical school was recently ranked #1 nationally among graduates as “The best place to learn”. Surgical education is a core mission of the department, and the acute care surgery section will include general surgery residents and medical students in addition to advanced practice providers. The Chair and senior faculty have a strong track record of helping newer members seamlessly become part of the team, and mentoring them in their career growth locally and nationally. Lubbock also has great public and private school systems and over 66 public parks, resulting in a very family- friendly atmosphere.Rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor and applicable salary are dependent upon candidate’s qualifications and experience.Major/Essential FunctionsProvides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical condition.Utilizes specialists and referrals as appropriate.Trains and supervises residents and medical students as appropriate.May manage the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function.Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety environment, and/or infection control standards.As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.Occasional DutiesPerforms miscellaneous and job-related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsMD/DO or equivalent.Completion of an ACGME accredited General Surgery Residency.Completion of, or in process of completing, a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.​​​​Preferred QualificationsRequired AttachmentsResume / CV BenefitsTTUHSC is committed to creating an environment where our team members can do their best work, with programs and benefits to support head-to-toe well-being.
