Position Highlights Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) - Nocturnist Hospital Medicine to join our established inpatient medicine team at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas . This position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, evidence-based inpatient care in a collaborative and supportive academic medical center environment. The Nocturnist PA will work closely with Hospital Medicine physicians and multidisciplinary teams to manage hospitalized adult patients during overnight hours. Job Summary The Physician Assistant (PA) - Nocturnist Hospital Medicine is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider who delivers comprehensive inpatient medical care during overnight hours. The PA works collaboratively with supervising physicians and interdisciplinary teams to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage hospitalized patients. Responsibilities include performing admissions, cross-covering hospitalized patients, responding to changes in patient condition, coordinating care transitions, and assisting with rapid clinical decision-making to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout the night. Essential Functions of the Role Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for newly admitted patients. Evaluate and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in hospitalized adult patients. Conduct inpatient admissions, consultations, and follow-up evaluations. Respond to overnight cross-coverage needs, including changes in patient condition, critical laboratory values, and urgent nursing concerns. Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory studies, imaging, and diagnostic tests. Formulate and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians. Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice and delegated authority. Facilitate timely communication between patients, families, nursing staff, consultants, and attending physicians. Participate in rapid response events and assist in the management of clinically deteriorating patients. Assist with transitions of care, including transfers between levels of care and discharge planning when applicable. Perform procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated competency as delegated by supervising physicians. Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough medical documentation in the electronic medical record. Collaborate with hospitalists, specialists, case management, pharmacy, nursing, and ancillary services to optimize patient outcomes. Ensure compliance with Baylor Scott & White Health policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based clinical standards. Manage overnight admissions from the Emergency Department and direct admissions from referring providers. Conduct admission history and physical examinations and initiate treatment plans. Provide cross-cover support for hospitalized patients throughout the facility. Evaluate and manage acute clinical issues including changes in vital signs, altered mental status, chest pain, respiratory distress, sepsis concerns, and other urgent conditions. Review and respond to overnight diagnostic results and critical findings. Coordinate with consulting services and specialty teams as needed. Assist with ICU transfers and escalation of care when clinically appropriate. Support patient throughput and operational efficiency during overnight hours. Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within the Hospital Medicine program. Key Success Factors Knowledge of inpatient hospital medicine practices and standards of care. EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

EXPERIENCE

Hospital Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, or related inpatient experience preferred. New graduates with relevant clinical training and strong inpatient rotations may be considered.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION

Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
