Senior Accountant

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the daily accounting operations of multiple operating companies. This is a hands-on accounting position responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger through high-volume journal entries, extensive bank reconciliations, and balance sheet account reconciliations. The majority of this role is dedicated to preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling financial activity, and ensuring accounting transactions are accurately recorded across multiple operating companies, each with its own bank accounts and financial records. The ideal candidate enjoys detailed accounting work, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and possesses exceptional organizational, analytical, and spreadsheet skills.

Essential Job Functions:

• Prepare and post a high volume of daily and monthly journal entries.
• Reconcile bank accounts for multiple operating companies on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare detailed monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure all reconciling items are researched, documented, and resolved.
• Play a key role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Analyze financial transactions to ensure proper account classification and compliance with GAAP.
• Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for management.
• Research accounting discrepancies and prepare correcting journal entries as needed.
• Assist with cash management activities and monitor banking transactions across multiple operating companies.
• Assist in the preparation of local, state, and federal tax filings by providing supporting schedules and documentation.
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Recommend improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and efficiencies.
• Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.

Operate with the highest level of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct. Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Skills & Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required. Candidates must be highly proficient with formulas, PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, data analysis, sorting, filtering, and reconciling large datasets. Strong proficiency with ERP/accounting software. Extensive experience preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger and bank accounts. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and other departments.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. Master's degree in Accounting preferred. CPA designation or CPA candidate is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience. Extensive experience preparing high-volume journal entries. Significant experience reconciling bank accounts and balance sheet accounts. Experience supporting multiple operating companies or legal entities preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency is required.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Daily use of accounting software and Microsoft Excel for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
