Sr. Accounting Manager

Senior Accounting Manager Position Summary The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s general accounting function, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role leads a team, drives process improvements, and supports strategic financial initiatives. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the daily operations of the general accounting team Establish, implement, and maintain strong internal controls, including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements Oversee accounting data analysis and prepare accurate financial reports Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes Manage and review balance sheet account reconciliations Maintain a thorough understanding of the general ledger structure and financial reporting processes Support budgeting and forecasting activities Identify and implement process improvements, including automation initiatives, to increase efficiency and accuracy Provide guidance on complex or non-routine accounting transactions Research and resolve accounting issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Ensure consistent application of accounting policies and procedures Coordinate audit requests and ensure timely and accurate responses Supervise and develop accounting staff, ensuring adherence to deadlines and performance expectations Assist in the development and implementation of new systems, processes, and controls Provide training and mentorship to team members Set performance goals for direct reports and support ongoing professional development Participate in special projects and continuous process improvement initiatives Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4 years in a supervisory role Public accounting experience required Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Proven leadership and team development capabilities Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) preferred Experience with ERP systems (such as SAP) preferred Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
