This Medical Assistant position supports a small, fast-paced colon and rectal specialty clinic by providing both front desk and occasional clinical assistance. The role focuses primarily on patient-facing administrative duties such as scheduling, check-in and check-out, and insurance-related tasks, while also contributing to a positive and stable atmosphere in a challenging environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform front desk duties including patient check-in and check-out, ensuring accurate collection and verification of patient information.
• Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, routing calls appropriately and addressing patient questions and concerns.
• Complete insurance verification and prior authorization processes accurately and in a timely manner to support patient access to care.
• Manage appointment scheduling using the electronic health record system, ensuring efficient use of provider time and minimal scheduling conflicts.
• Maintain and update patient charts and electronic health records with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Provide occasional back-office clinical support as needed, such as basic patient care tasks consistent with medical assistant training.

Essential Skills

• Medical Assistant diploma is required.
• Verified high school diploma or GED is required prior to starting the role.
• Experience working as a medical assistant in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Comfort working in a colon and rectal specialty setting and with related patient care needs.
• Demonstrated ability to perform insurance verification and prior authorization tasks.
• Ability to schedule appointments accurately and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Capacity to receive feedback and follow direction constructively.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small clinic with one provider that operates in a colon and rectal specialty. The environment is fast-paced and can be challenging at times due to occasional interpersonal conflicts and defensive or combative behaviors. The ideal Medical Assistant helps bring stability, professionalism, and a positive attitude to the team. Standard hours are Monday from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with limited but possible overtime. Work is performed in a clinical setting using Athena and other electronic health record systems, phones, and standard medical office equipment, with an expectation of professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for direct patient interaction.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Braunfels, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
