Summary The purpose of this job is to apply and remove all types of casts and splints. Typically a person in this position will have at least two (2) years of experience in the care of the orthopedic patient. It is preferred that they are certified by the National Board of Certification for Orthopedic Technologists (NBOCT). This person works independently without supervision and may be required to provide call coverage. Responsibilities Articulates descriptions of orthopedic conditions to patients and their families based on the understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships with one another. Applies, adjusts and removes all common orthopedic devices, using a manual or standard practice as a guideline. Performs basic casting, including the application of SPICA casts. Knowledge of theory and application of skin or skeletal traction. Properly applies aseptic techniques in dressing changes, removes sutures or staples and sets up a sterile surgical field. Interprets simple fractures and dislocations on X-ray films. Must perform in an operating room environment as a first and second assistant or scrub technician under the direct supervision of a surgeon. Must be able communicate effectively with providers, clinic staff, patients and families. Work Experience How You'll Be Successful: At least 2 years full-time work experience in a hospital, clinic, office or as an independent contractor working directly in the care of orthopedic patients preferred EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent required LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Upon Hire required National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) - within 2 years of date of hire preferred A Place Where You Belong We put our people first.
