Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine
An open search: Every discipline and every rank
Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) is building one of the nation’s premier environments for pediatric and women’s health research through a bold expansion of its biomedical research enterprise. We are recruiting five to seven faculty yearly based on research promise rather than field or seniority. Through the Texas Children’s Research Vision, our initiative to build this enterprise, we plan to recruit 30 new investigators by 2030.
If your science can advance the health of children or women, we want to hear from you: biologists, chemists, physicists, engineers, computational scientists, epidemiologists, clinical investigators. Our Center for Cell and Gene Therapy runs GMP manufacturing, viral vector production, and cell processing on site, with full clinical trial infrastructure — an investigator in gene editing, gene therapy, or RNA therapeutics can take a construct from bench to patient without leaving campus. We would be glad to fill one or two of this year’s positions with scientists or physician-scientists working in this space.
Prior work in pediatrics or obstetrics is not required. We ask for exceptional science and the ambition to lead research that will have an impact on our patients.
Eligibility
MDs, PhDs, MD/PhDs (or equivalent) from diverse disciplines are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have experience in basic, translational, or clinical research, a demonstrated commitment to scholarly activity and outstanding scientific accomplishments.
The Institutions you will be joining
Texas Children’s is the largest children’s hospital in the United States, ranked among the nation’s best children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report year after year, and a leading provider of obstetrical care. Rare diseases are not rare here — our patient volume makes questions tractable that are impractical almost anywhere else. TCH is the affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Successful candidates will be appointed as tenure-track or tenured faculty at Baylor College of Medicine.
Baylor College of Medicine ranks among the top U.S. medical schools in NIH funding, and its genetics department has held first place in the country for years. It educates a vibrant community of more than 3,000 trainees and over 500 postdoctoral fellows.
The TCH research enterprise runs through two institutes on one walkable campus. The Texas Children’s Research Institute (TCRI) is a multidisciplinary biomedical research hub that houses researchers working on a variety of disorders. It is also home for the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy and is adjacent to Baylor’s Children’s Nutrition Research Center. The Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (Duncan NRI) is among the world’s leading centers for neurobiology of disease research including neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Both Institutes have developed platforms that capitalize on computational and AI research to advance discoveries.
What we commit to you
Protected research time, with models built for physician-scientists who intend to keep doing science. Core facilities and computational infrastructure you will not outgrow, and dedicated research support staff. Structured mentorship and leadership development; we measure ourselves on whether the people we recruit become leaders. The Texas Medical Center: the world’s largest medical complex offers opportunities to collaborate with investigators at Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University, Texas A&M University Health Science Center, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Houston: among the most diverse cities in the country, great food, a superb art scene, and a low cost of living that will surprise you. To apply
