Director of Finance & Accounting

A well-established Rhode Island-based manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Director of Finance & Accounting to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a highly visible leadership role for a hands‑on finance professional who can balance day‑to‑day accounting oversight with strategic financial planning and analysis. The Director will partner closely with executive leadership and operational teams, providing meaningful financial insight while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the company's accounting function. The ideal candidate brings a strong manufacturing finance background and enjoys working within an operational, fast‑paced environment. Key Responsibilities Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and budgets Partner with senior leadership on financial planning, profitability analysis, and strategic decision‑making Provide financial analysis around margins, product costs, inventory, labor, overhead, and operational performance Establish and monitor KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with external accounting and banking partners Manage cash flow, working capital, and treasury activities Support inventory accounting, standard costing, cost‑of‑goods‑sold analysis, and manufacturing variance analysis Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve reporting, and leverage ERP/financial systems more effectively Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting and finance team Collaborate closely with Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, and other departments to improve overall business performance Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline Progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, ideally within a manufacturing or similarly operational environment Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting Hands‑on experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and month‑end/year‑end close Knowledge of manufacturing accounting concepts, including inventory, costing, margins, and variance analysis Experience managing and developing accounting professionals Strong ERP and advanced Excel skills Ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for non‑financial leaders Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities CPA and/or MBA is a plus The Opportunity This position offers the opportunity to have a meaningful impact within an established Rhode Island organization.
