Senior Manager of Accounting & Finance – Direct Hire
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
FLSA Status: Exempt
RI Temps is recruiting on behalf of our client for a direct-hire Senior Manager of Accounting & Finance. This is a permanent, full-time position directly with our client, a growing, mission-driven organization that provides services and solutions to nonprofit, education, healthcare, and community-based organizations across the country.
We are seeking an accomplished accounting and finance professional who enjoys improving processes, strengthening financial operations, developing teams, and providing leadership with the financial insight needed to make sound business decisions.t
Reporting to the Director of Operations & Administration , the Senior Manager of Accounting & Finance will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, compliance, and financial systems. The successful candidate will play an important role in building scalable financial practices that support continued organizational growth.
· Building and improving accounting systems and processes
· Developing or restructuring a chart of accounts
· Establishing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
· Using accounting data and analytics to identify trends, provide insights, and support leadership decision-making
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, cash management, and reconciliations.
- Ensure revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP .
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Monitor organizational cash flow and financial performance.
- Review bank and investment account reconciliations.
- Oversee payroll processing and compliance with applicable payroll tax requirements.
- Ensure accurate accounting for payroll, employee benefits, and related allocations.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop financial forecasts, cash-flow projections, and budget-to-actual variance analyses.
- Coordinate the annual operating budget in partnership with department leaders.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Develop dashboards and key performance indicators to improve visibility into organizational performance.
- Analyze financial and operational results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Translate financial information into practical recommendations for leadership.
- Evaluate the financial impact of new initiatives, pricing decisions, resource allocation, and operational improvements.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Maintain appropriate safeguards over organizational assets, revenues, expenditures, and program funds.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Coordinate external financial reporting, tax filings, and other compliance activities.
- Oversee preparation of IRS Form 990 .
- Prepare financial schedules and supporting documentation for external accountants, regulatory agencies, and audits.
- Recommend improvements to strengthen financial governance, efficiency, and scalability.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain and optimize accounting and financial systems and integrations, including platforms such as QuickBooks, Braintree, Avalara, and Salesforce .
- Identify opportunities to automate accounting processes and improve system integrations.
- Improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Develop scalable processes that support continued organizational growth.
- Improve workflows through technology, documentation, automation, and process redesign.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and support accounting and finance staff, which may include accountants, AP/AR specialists, and payroll personnel.
- Manage team workload, priorities, performance, and professional development.
- Partner with leaders across the organization to improve financial awareness and decision-making.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, integrity, continuous improvement, and exceptional internal customer service.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration , or a related field.
- CPA preferred ; CMA, MBA, or comparable professional credentials will also be considered.
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience , including approximately 3–5 years in an Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, Controller, or similar leadership role.
- Strong experience managing the full accounting cycle.
- Demonstrated experience with general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, cash management, reconciliations, and month/year-end close.
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards strongly preferred.
- Experience developing budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and financial analyses.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and financial compliance.
- Experience preparing financial information and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Supervisory experience leading accounting or finance professionals.
- Strong proficiency with accounting/ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel .

- Knowledge of payroll administration, sales tax, fixed assets, and grant or project accounting.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
