Medical Billing Specialist

Overview The Medical Billing Specialist plays a key role in helping individuals access and maintain essential services by ensuring financial resources and coverage options are properly identified and utilized. This position works closely with individuals, families, and third‑party payers to determine eligibility, benefits, and available payment solutions. The specialist proactively identifies and resolves financial concerns and collaborates with Intake and Finance teams to prevent disruptions in service delivery. Key Responsibilities Assist clients in resolving financial concerns while delivering exceptional customer service. Notify clients of insurance coverage lapses and services not covered by their plans. Secure insurance benefits and financial assistance resources, including completion of required documentation. Provide financial counseling and connect clients with available community resources. Manage eligibility processes for sliding‑scale fees, grant‑funded programs, scholarships, and other assistance opportunities. Respond to inquiries related to financial aid, billing disputes, prior authorizations, and payment arrangements. Meet established productivity, financial, and operational performance goals. Reduce service interruptions by proactively addressing insurance and payment issues. Collect co‑payments and accurately document all payments received. Maintain working knowledge of Medicaid requirements and third‑party payer regulations. Utilize software systems to manage financial assistance information and generate eligibility reports. Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. Stay informed regarding changes in funding sources, insurance plans, and coverage requirements. Verify insurance eligibility and maintain accurate billing system records. Partner with Finance, Intake, and program teams to support continuity of care and service delivery. Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and partners to maximize financial assistance opportunities for clients. Support timely processing and submission of behavioral health claims. Qualifications Knowledge of public and private health insurance plans. Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) systems (preferred). Strong customer service and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Pay Transparency Salary for this role is determined by a range based on skills, experience, training, licensure, certification requirements, geographic location, and other business factors. The base compensation will be within the announced salary range for the geographic region.
