Payroll Clerk

Overview & Responsibilities

Primary Function

Processing payroll for a diverse workforce requires precision, adaptability, and a strong commitment to accuracy. We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk who excels in managing complex payroll processes and takes pride in delivering accurate and timely results.

In this represented position, you will work collaboratively with experienced finance and payroll professionals to ensure the accurate processing of payroll for employees across a variety of classifications, compensation structures, and collective bargaining agreements. Responsibilities include reviewing and processing payroll transactions, maintaining payroll records, resolving discrepancies, ensuring compliance with applicable policies and labor agreements, and providing exceptional customer service in response to payroll-related inquiries.

Working Procedures

• Extends time records and enters data through terminal as required.
• Extends daily elapsed time and summarizes the weekly hours worked, overtime and shift differential.
• Calculates changes in gross pay due to rate changes, management transfers, shortages, vacations, holidays or any other exceptions for the current or prior payrolls. Calculates withholding tax if required.
• Verifies payroll distribution controls of all hours worked including regular and overtime and the control for night shift bonus.
• Makes changes to payroll master file when necessary.
• Verifies and balances monthly, quarterly and year-to-date payroll reports to the payroll summary.
• Prepares advance vacation pays and termination pays when necessary.
• Processes inquiries pertaining to Social Security, Unemployment Compensation or other similar requests.
• Accounts for all checks by maintaining serial number controls.
• Performs other miscellaneous clerical duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able and willing to work 1st shift (7am-5pm), Monday - Thursday.
• Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
• Experience using an automated Payroll system (ADP, Ceridian, Workday, Peoplesoft or SAP)
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
• Detail oriented with time management skills
• Experience with a time management System (Kronos preferred)
• Understands Federal and Pennsylvania payroll laws and payroll tax laws.
• Ability to think and work independently
• Ability to work with confidential information such as salaries, bonuses, employee information, etc.
