INFORMATION OFFICER I (SPECIALIST)

Overview The Packaging Producer Responsibility Communications Specialist works under the direction of the Information Officer II to help Californians and stakeholders understand and participate in the state’s transition to a circular economy for single‑use packaging. The role explains California’s landmark packaging law (SB 54) and ensures businesses, local governments, and communities have access to clear, accurate, and actionable information. Responsibilities Translate complex policy requirements into speech materials, talking points, presentation slides, social media content, web copy, and other communications that help stakeholders understand the law, how to comply, and how it benefits the environment and public health. Develop and support a statewide communications strategy, producing creative and accessible content and providing copyediting to ensure clarity and consistency across materials. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to coordinate messaging and maintain brand voice. Adapt communication approaches to suit diverse audiences, including businesses, local governments, and the public. Qualifications Excellent written communication skills and strong project‑management abilities. Experience producing professional written and visual communication materials, such as speeches, talking points, and presentation slides. Skilled in translating complex technical information into accessible, plain‑language content. Background in copyediting and/or editorial quality control for grammar, clarity, ADA accessibility, and plain language. Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Minimum Requirements Classification: Information Officer I (Specialist) Salary: $6,031.00 – $7,547.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.
