Title: Staff Psychologist Division: Student Affairs Department: Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) FLSA Status: Exempt Salary Range: $72,000/Annual Salary EEO Job Group: 2 E2 Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, this staff psychologist provides direct mental health services to our eligible student population, maintaining a limited caseload while supervising advanced practicum trainees. Such services include psychoeducation, diagnostic assessments, crisis management, treatment planning, and group and individual evidence‑based treatment interventions while documenting all clinical contacts and services in a thorough and timely manner. The position will include providing relevant outreach services to the USI campus community and the greater Evansville community at‑large. All services provided will be consistent with established standards of care and adhere to all legal and ethical guidelines for the profession. This psychologist position will collaborate closely with the CAPS Director and leadership team to develop a training program for doctoral practicum students and possibly other graduate level trainees that is comprehensive, effective and grounded in best practices. It is a priority to shape a supportive, innovative training environment that reflects our commitment to excellence, teamwork and student success. Duties / Responsibilities This psychology position will serve as a primary leader in shaping the CAPS advanced doctoral practicum program with the goal of maintaining a cohort of three to four advanced practicum trainees from APA approved doctoral psychology programs. Responsibilities include working as a team member to design and implement the training program in alignment with APA training standards, coordinating weekly consultation and didactic seminars, providing individual supervision and overseeing trainee evaluation and program development. Assess the mental health needs of students through diagnostic evaluations, clinical observation, psychometric instruments (relevant to the professional credential) and other clinically indicated means. Establish mental health diagnoses consistent with the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Apply knowledge of mental health theories, global competencies, psychopathology, and clinical research to establish case conceptualizations and develop client-centered treatment plans for a wide range of presenting concerns within the context of the developmental nature of the student population. Determine the clinically indicated level of care required, the need for specialized services and the ability of Counseling and Psychological Services to meet students’ needs in accordance with established policies. Provide evidence-based individual and group interventions designed to assist the entire student population with a wide range of presenting concerns, and with the flexibility to offer these services both in‑person and via tele‑behavior health. Work from a time-limited model of psychotherapy and maintain a limited caseload (determined in conjunction with the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services). Document all clinical services in a timely manner and in accordance with professional standards. Assess level of risk, provide appropriate and timely crisis intervention. When clinically indicated, assist and coordinate higher level of care utilizing community mental health resources (including voluntary and involuntary hospitalization). Adhere to a scope of practice that is consistent with established competencies as determined by education, training, experience, and legal standards. Provide services consistent with the standard of care for the profession and adhere to all legal and ethical guidelines. Maintain and enhance professional competencies by attending workshops and conferences, obtaining relevant certifications and through membership(s) in professional associations. Provide outreach and supportive programming to the university community with an emphasis on mental health awareness. Provide regular and emergency consultation to faculty, staff, and other concerned parties. Perform duties of specialized focus as assigned based on levels of training and experience. Required Knowledge and Skills Requires a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-approved doctoral program. APA-approved pre-doctoral internship is required. Must be licensed to practice independently as a psychologist (with HSPP designation) in the state of Indiana or have a current independent licensure in another state with eligibility to obtain Indiana licensure by the start date. Work with the CAPS leadership team to manage trainee recruitment, selection, orientation and evaluation processes. Provide clinical supervision to unlicensed clinical staff and trainees. Experience providing time-limited individual therapy, crisis intervention, and group therapy within a university or comparable clinical setting. Strong knowledge of legal, ethical, and professional standards in psychology, including supervision best practices. Significant knowledge of tele‑behavior health and the specific challenges and limitations with regards to state licensure limitations, ethics, safety concerns, technology, and confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in oral and written communication. Strong work ethic and a desire to work collaboratively within the Counseling Center, Student Affairs, and the University community. Must be responsive to a high demand for services while managing unexpected crisis situations. Preferred Knowledge and Skills Prior experience coordinating or directing a training program within a university or college counseling center. Experience providing clinical supervision to graduate level clinical supervisees. Demonstrated experience in a leadership role or experience as a clinical supervisor. Developed specialized skills for working with certain populations of students or with specific areas of presenting concerns. Special skills and experience relevant to substance abuse, group therapy, supervision of practica/internships, and/or those student populations underserved, under resourced or facing systemic barriers are strongly desired. Basic computer skills required; experience with Titanium Schedule is desirable. Functional Requirements The position requires: The application of effective interpersonal communication skills with students, their families, faculty, and staff, even when strong emotions are expressed. Must establish rapport, build trust, problem-solve, and maintain confidentiality in clinical situations. Effective management of conflict, stress and anger. Must always present a consistently professional demeanor, even in difficult, negative, or frustrating situations. A high degree of skill in identifying situations that require immediate action or intervention. Remaining in a stationary position at a desk or workstation for extended periods of time for most assigned duties. Ability to use computers and computer systems (hardware and software) to set up functions, to enter data, to retrieve, to process information and to create documents. Physical access occasionally to other workstations, departments, and conference rooms to meet with students, faculty, and staff, or to attend presentations and events. Regular Work Hours / Travel Requirements Standard office hours are Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Irregular hours (including nights and weekends) may be required.
