Registered Nurse – IMC/PCU/Stepdown (Neuro Stepdown)

Contract | Nights | 4x12-Hour Shifts (18:45–07:15) | Onsite | 48-hour shifts may be offered | Contract length: 16 weeks minimum through February 27, 2027

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a sub-specialized neurological and medical intermediate patient population with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
• Manage and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips, including Levophed (LEVO) , heparin protocols, thrombolytic agents, PCA, and IV insulin drips
• Perform and interpret cardiac monitoring, including telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation and management; participate in Rapid Response and Code team activations
• Care for complex neurological patients including those with CVA, intracranial bleeds, traumatic brain injury, craniotomy, aneurysm repair, lumbar drains, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, and post-TPA care
• Manage respiratory needs including tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, chest tubes, ventilated patients, and ABG interpretation
• Float as needed to other intermediate areas and critical care (ICU/Stepdown) units; expected to work a minimum of 3 weekend shifts every six weeks

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license – NC state license or Compact license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; neuro stepdown or neurological nursing experience strongly preferred and must be disclosed if limited
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Proficiency in Epic EMR required; experience with Pyxis and SBAR documentation required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Required clinical skills include: Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, telemetry monitoring, TR Band, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central/PICC/peripheral line management, feeding tube care, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions/PPE
• Local candidates are welcome; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at an adjusted rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience accessing and managing ports; phlebotomy skills
• Experience with triage, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, and conscious sedation
• Charge nurse experience
• Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI
