Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).Three (3) years of full time experience in marketing/promotions, public relations and or communications. Experience in higher education or housing managing outreach, events or communications. Experience with professional writing and/or editorial. Experience with developing diverse digital print, print and/or social media assets. Supervisory experience. Occasionally moves materials, equipment, or cameras weighing up to 50 pounds across campus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in end-to-end multimedia production, including scripting, storyboarding, editing, and publishing high-quality video content. Experience overseeing marketing campaigns and asset portfolios across diverse digital and print platforms. Experience managing and utilizing multiple technology platforms for housing operations, communication, or content management. Experience developing and implementing comprehensive standards for branded promotional items and external recruitment materials. Experience with digital accessibility (ADA compliance) and inclusive communication practices for all digital and print materials.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Marketing and Communication Manager for Campus Residences serves as the lead strategist, project manager, and department-wide consultant for all communications and marketing efforts within Campus Residences. This role is responsible for driving cohesive branding, marketing standards, and communications best practices across platforms, teams, and initiatives. The position supervises the day-to-day of professional and student staff, manages key projects and communication systems, and acts as the primary liaison to the Communications, Research, Assessment, Fundraising, and Technology (CRAFT) team for Student Affairs. At times, the incumbent will need to represent the department at various meetings, forums, etc. for both internal and external stakeholders. The Marketing and Communication Manager is expected to remain abreast of industry standards and best practices. Creativity, collaboration, and superior communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) are essential for this role.
Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Housing Administration and Marketing Communication with a functional reporting relationship to the Student Affairs Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, this role plays a vital part in strengthening the department's reputation, engagement, and operational excellence.
Marketing Strategy & Brand Leadership
Establish vision, goals, and strategic priorities for Campus Residences in collaboration with Campus Residences and CRAFT leadership.
Lead all marketing, branding, and promotional strategy for Campus Residences, ensuring consistent visual identity and tone across media and platforms.
Develop and implement standards for branded materials and promotional items.
Lead marketing and communication components related to on-campus housing for Admitted Seawolves Day, campus visit days, residence hall tours with Admissions, orientation sessions, and open house summer tours.
Oversee external branding and marketing materials related to conference group recruitment, quote packages, and major external events.
Oversee development, approval, and deployment schedule for all StarRez communication templates.
Support Campus Residences leadership in responding to media inquiries, coordinating with relevant partners to assist in crafting responses and facilitating footage and interview requests as directed.
Develop strong collaborative relationships with campus stakeholders, including Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate School, HSC, and Southampton Campus to ensure accurate information and recruitment efforts are made for on-campus housing.
Partner with Residential Education to support residential curriculum efforts through strategic marketing initiatives.
Serve as the Campus Residences liaison to the CRAFT leadership team; attend regular meetings and manage the partnership agreement with the central CRAFT team.
Serve on the Campus Residences signage committee, a partnership between Campus Planning Design and Construction, Campus Operations and Maintenance, and Campus Residences.
Supervision & Management
Indirectly supervise Marketing Coordinators and directly supervise student marketing assistants, providing training, feedback, and ongoing development.
Manage and support Campus Residences CRAFT requests, assignments to Campus Residences Marketing Coordinators and student staff, and completion of projects.
Manage tracking systems for all marketing and communications projects across Campus Residences.
Serve as the department's internal marketing consultant to assist staff with new campaign planning, website content development, concept development, and implementation support.
Provide support and guidance for special projects and operational initiatives as assigned.
Serve as the clearinghouse for all Campus Residences staff-developed communication, marketing, and content.
Digital & Print Communication
Develop and maintain high-quality written content for Campus Residences marketing materials, including website copy, mass emails, digital and print campaigns, and branding initiatives, ensuring all communications are consistent, accurate, and aligned with departmental goals. This includes proofreading all outgoing content.
Manage the Campus Residences website content, ensuring accessibility, accuracy, and alignment with university branding and strategy.
Coordinate with the Campus Residences Accessibility Manager to ensure all digital, print, and in-person materials and events meet accessibility standards.
Serve as the Campus Residences internal staff consultant to develop content, scripts, and vision for a wide range of marketing and communications assets, including promotional videos, tutorials, and presentations, to ensure a clear and consistent narrative.
Establish, maintain, and monitor communication protocols for mass emailing, print materials, and customer service communication expectations.
Be available to assist and respond to emergency situations that require marketing and communication components.
Support senior leadership in presentation materials, infographics, and communication to internal and external stakeholders.
Professional Development and Committee Involvement:
Participate in opportunities that promote learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars, etc.).
Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of individual units/departments (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
Salary : $80,000-$85,000 $4,000 Location Pay = $84,000-$89,000 Total Compensation
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
