Job Description:The Annually Contracted Faculty member creates, manages and participates in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. The Annually Contracted Faculty member participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college and of the collective and individual interests of its staff and student body. The contracted faculty member supports and seeks always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the College embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by the board of education. This position description is in association with the Annually Contracted Faculty contract. This position is intended to be in Veterinary Technology instruction.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSInstruction & Student LearningTeaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instructionConsiders individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activitiesParticipates in identifying students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resourceUses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning using such technologyKeep accurate and proper records according to the Faculty Handbook and departmental policiesMaintains attendance records, determines and submits grades promptly and per established policies and procedures of the college, and communicates progress feedback and other relevant information to students throughout the semesterCreate and maintain accurate syllabi incorporating departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirementsParticipates in selecting appropriate materials to support course curriculum per the College’s guidelinesConducts classes punctually and following the prescribed meeting scheduleEmploys and assists in designing and developing appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectivesBe a facilitator of learning in a virtual environment.Student Engagement & AdvisementCreates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and learner supportMaintains posted office hours per departmental policies of the CollegeUses technology to assist in communication with studentsEncourages a sense of community among students for learning inside and outside the classroomRefers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.Continuous ImprovementPromotes continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning by assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, as applicable, to the development, selection, and improvement of instructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of course description, course outlines, and syllabi; recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating in the design of new curriculaCompletes all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits and participates in all required training by the CollegeShares best practices with colleagues in formal or informal settingsParticipates in instructional, departmental, or institutional research to improve educational effectivenessEvaluates teaching and assessment practices to continue improving themProvides feedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of the department, division, and the CollegeParticipates, as appropriate, in the interviewing, selection, and orientation processes of department faculty and staffProvides advice and assistance to department, division, or College facultyAttends faculty meetings as called by the President, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean, or Department Chairperson; and participates, as appropriate, on departmental and divisional committeesProfessional DevelopmentMaintains a personal portfolio for tenure and promotion review and other career-related needsEmploys student, administrative, and self-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professional development and participates in professional development activitiesContributes, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation, and/or presentation of college professional development programsMaintains required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictateCulture of RespectFosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the communityOTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESContributes to the community and/or the profession as a representative of the CollegeParticipates in local, statewide, or national levels in the advancement of the discipline and/or the two-year college missionWorks a varying schedule, including nights & weekends, to meet departmental needsRegular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.WORKING CONDITIONSTypical office/classroom. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business officesMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDGraduate from a CVTEA or CVMA accredited program and a Credentialed Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Licensed VeterinarianFive (5) years of relevant veterinary clinical experience or teaching experience in an AVMA-CVTEA accredited programAn appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related fieldLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSState Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s)Current as an RVT, CVT, or LVT or DVM or VMD licenseCompensation Details:$64 per contact hourTwo hours equal one contact hourCSCC has the right to revise this position description at any time.
