Motor Equipment Operator II

The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is currently hiring a Motor Equipment Operator II to perform a variety of tasks in the Stormwater Maintenance division, duties to include:

• Operate a Vacuum Truck and utilize associated equipment to clean and remove debris from stormwater drainage pipes.
• Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.
• Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies, to and from the job site.
• Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal and sanding of icy streets and roads.
• Operate dump truck and/or backhoe in making ditch repairs.
• Assist with pump station maintenance, pond aerator maintenance, sluice gate maintenance, and street sweeper/vacuum truck maintenance.
• Service and perform minor repairs on automotive equipment, including, but not limited to, excavator, frontend loader, backhoe, vacuum truck.
• Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
• Position also requires a significant amount of work by hand when cleaning drainage structures, pipes, ditches, removing debris, cutting down trees, and shoveling sediment.
• Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.
• Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.

This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow, etc.).

Pre-employment physical is required.

Must possess a Commercial Driver's License Class A (VA or NC)

CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:

• $1,000 with first paycheck
• $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
• $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
