Job Title: CNC Operator

Job Description

This role supports the production of high-quality metal fencing and barrier systems for defense and security applications. The CNC Operator sets up, operates, and maintains CNC machinery to fabricate steel and aluminum components to precise specifications while consistently meeting strict quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines, including laser cutters, plasma cutters, routers, and mills, to produce metal components used in fencing systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to ensure accurate and efficient production.
• Load raw materials such as steel, aluminum, and other alloys, and adjust machine settings including speed, feed rate, and tool paths.
• Perform routine machine calibrations, tool changes, and minor maintenance to maintain optimal equipment performance.
• Inspect finished components using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify tolerances and quality standards.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues related to machine performance, tooling, or material defects to minimize downtime and scrap.
• Maintain accurate production documentation, including job tracking, inspection records, and quality reports.
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams to meet deadlines and project requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce scrap or rework, and improve overall process reliability.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1–3+ years of experience operating CNC equipment in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC machinery such as laser cutters, plasma cutters, routers, or mills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Experience working with steel, aluminum, or other heavy-gauge materials.
• Competence using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges for precise inspection.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a production team.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining high quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Technical certification in machining or CNC operations.
• Familiarity with G-code and basic CNC programming.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or other high-spec manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of ISO, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.
• Experience with laser or plasma cutting applications for structural or fencing products.
• Forklift or overhead crane experience.
• Experience with lathe operations and general machining processes.
• Experience in machine setup and tooling for CNC equipment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a metal machining and weld shop environment where you will work around CNC machinery, cutting equipment, and heavy-gauge materials. The facility can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. The typical start time is 7:00 a.m., supporting a structured daytime schedule. You will work in an industrial setting that emphasizes safety, organization, and proper use of tools and equipment, including material handling devices such as forklifts or overhead cranes where applicable.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fredericksburg, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr.
