USA Field Hockey Men's National Team Assistant Coach Manager: USA Field Hockey — Field Hockey Coach Location: Charlotte · NC Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 / year Employment type: Full‑time, dedicated Men’s National Team role, based in Charlotte, NC, USA. Role Repositioning Objective Reposition the role from a shared High Performance Coach into a dedicated Men’s National Team Assistant Coach position with clear ownership, accountability, and alignment to a high-performance international program. Position Purpose The Men’s National Team Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in the planning, preparation, delivery, and continued development of the USA Field Hockey Men’s National Team Program. The role will contribute to building a sustainable high-performance environment focused on international success, athlete development, performance standards, and objectives leading toward LA28 and beyond to Brisbane 2032. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in daily training delivery, athlete development, tactical preparation, competition performance, and the continued evolution of the Men’s National Team playing identity and culture. Principal Activities, Supervision and Reporting The role reports directly to the Men’s National Team Head Coach. The primary responsibility of the role is to support the selection, preparation, coaching, development, and performance of the USA Field Hockey Men’s National Senior Team. The role will contribute to the leadership and longer-term development of the Men’s Senior and Junior High Performance programs. Performance Coaching Responsibilities Primary responsibility will be the preparation, coaching, and performance development of the USA Men’s National Team. Deliver high-quality on-field coaching within the centralized training environment. Lead specific technical and tactical areas as assigned by the Head Coach. Support the development and execution of the Men’s National Team playing principles and identity. Lead individual athlete development through: Technical feedback Video analysis Individual Development Plans Performance reviews Position‑specific development Prepare and deliver individual and team feedback sessions. Contribute to team selection discussions through objective athlete evaluation. Support the preparation and delivery of: Domestic training camps International tours Test matches FIH competitions Major qualification events Tactical and Technical Leadership Areas The Assistant Coach will own and develop specific performance areas as agreed with the Head Coach. Roles may include: Defensive structures and principles Attacking structures and principles Penalty corner defense and attack Unit development Specialist skill development Set plays Opposition analysis Game preparation strategies Responsibilities include: Develop technical models and coaching resources. Create tactical documentation, presentations, and video resources. Monitor international trends and integrate relevant concepts into the program. Support athletes in understanding and executing team principles. Planning, Monitoring and Athlete Development Support the Head Coach with annual and long‑term planning, including: Annual Performance Plans. Competition preparation cycles. Training themes and objectives. Athlete development priorities. LA28 preparation strategy and Brisbane 2032 long‑term planning. Responsibilities include: Monitor athlete progress against agreed performance standards. Track technical, tactical, physical, and behavioral development. Maintain athlete performance records and feedback documentation. Attend and contribute to athlete review meetings. Provide clear recommendations on athlete progression. Performance Analysis and Opposition Preparation Support opposition scouting. Produce detailed analysis reports. Identify opponent trends, strengths, and vulnerabilities. Develop game‑plan recommendations. Support live game analysis and tactical adjustments. Build video libraries and educational resources. Junior High Performance Pathway Support Support alignment between the Senior Men’s National Team and Junior High Performance pathway. Responsibilities include: Provide technical guidance and resources for identified pathway athletes. Support alignment of playing principles across: U21 U18 U16 Assist with talent identification and athlete evaluation. Support the development of future Men’s National Team athletes. High Performance Culture and Leadership Contribute to the ongoing development of a world‑class performance environment. Responsibilities include: Role model professional standards and behaviors. Reinforce program values, expectations, and accountability. Support athlete leadership development. Drive a growth‑focused daily training environment. Challenge athletes and staff to consistently raise standards. Administration and Communication Maintain Men’s National Team performance platforms and resources. Manage assigned areas within the Men’s National Team Notion workspace. Prepare coaching documents and presentations. Ensure effective communication between athletes, staff, and support services. Complete administrative tasks related to the successful execution of the program. Additional Responsibilities Represent USA Field Hockey professionally at all times. Contribute to wider High Performance initiatives where appropriate. Support camps, clinics, education opportunities, and pathway activities when required. Complete additional duties assigned by the Men’s National Team Head Coach and/or High Performance Director. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications 5+ years of coaching experience at the international, national team, or elite collegiate/club level. Bachelor’s degree. International coaching certification: FIH Level 3 or above. Demonstrated experience with video analysis and performance software. Strong understanding of modern international field hockey tactics, systems, and playing principles. Preferred Qualifications Prior playing and/or coaching experience in international field hockey. Experience within an Olympic or international high‑performance program. Experience working with national governing bodies and elite athlete pathways. Employment Type & Travel Full‑time, dedicated Men’s National Team role, based in Charlotte, NC, USA. Significant domestic and international travel required (training camps, test matches, FIH events, qualification tournaments). Evening and weekend work required based on training and competition schedule.
