MIG Welder – Lift Assist Table Project

This role focuses on MIG welding cold rolled steel components for lift assist tables as part of a large production project. You will use your welding skills to assemble and join 3/16" to 1/4" steel parts in a clean, well-maintained machine shop environment on an evening shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on 3/16" to 1/4" cold rolled steel components used in lift assist tables
• Accurately weld and assemble table components according to specifications and drawings
• Set up, operate, and adjust MIG welding equipment to achieve strong, consistent welds
• Inspect welds visually and with appropriate tools to ensure quality and structural integrity
• Follow established safety procedures, including proper use of welding helmet and protective gear
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in a machine shop environment
• Work effectively on a 6 pm to 2 am shift, meeting daily production targets for the project
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow and resolve issues
• Handle and position steel materials safely, using appropriate tools and techniques
• Adapt to a louder, industrial setting and be comfortable with tasks that may involve dirt and debris

Essential Skills

• Minimum 6 months of MIG welding experience (in school or on-the-job)
• Proficiency in MIG welding processes on cold rolled steel
• Ability to weld 3/16" to 1/4" steel with consistent quality
• Experience working with steel materials in a production or shop environment
• Capability to read and follow basic instructions, work orders, or weld specifications
• Strong attention to detail and focus on weld quality and safety
• Reliability to work a 6 pm to 2 am Monday–Friday shift for a 40-hour workweek
• Use of a welding helmet and adherence to welding safety practices

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment
• Comfort working in a louder industrial setting and around machinery
• Ability to maintain productivity and quality standards over an 8-week project
• Willingness to perform physically active work, including standing for extended periods and handling steel components
• Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills
• Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with shop tools and equipment

Work Environment

The role is based in a 20-year-old machine shop facility that is kept in immaculate condition for its industry. You will work in a clean yet authentically industrial environment where it is normal to get dirty and to be around louder machinery. The position follows a 6 pm to 2 am Monday–Friday shift, totaling 40 hours per week over an 8-week project. Standard welding attire is required, including a welding helmet and appropriate protective clothing suitable for a steel-focused machine shop.

This is a Contract position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
