Maintenance Mechanic

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Maintenance Mechanic to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Maintenance Mechanic - Central (H) constructs, maintains, and tests mechanical equipment, machinery, and components to maintain the physical assets of the institution in good working order.

Responsibilities include:

• Greasing, lubricating and replacing filters in air and hydraulic systems.
• Performing inspections and repairs of equipment and completing scheduled maintenance.
• Diagnosing problems and making adjustments or reporting situations to proper managing staff.
• Preparing and maintaining records and reports.
• Reading and interpreting equipment manuals and work orders.
• Ordering necessary parts and equipment from vendors and suppliers.
• Adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets.

Department Specific Functions include:

• Providing proper care, preventative maintenance, and repair maintenance of building surfaces, building structures, hardware, furniture and fixtures in assigned areas.
• Initiating work orders to appropriate maintenance personnel when the nature of the work is beyond the mechanic's capability. Assisting with the completion of the work as required.
• Replacing broken glass inside doors, windows and partitions.
• Replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes that custodian personnel cannot reach without scaffolding or ladders 6 feet or smaller.
• Replacing faucet washers and flush valves; repairing minor plumbing leaks; unclogging drains with snakes and plumber helpers; and other plumbing duties.
• Replacing broken commode seats, tissue, towel, and soap dispensers, repairing bathroom partitions, and mirrors.
• Repairing or replacing damaged ceiling, wall, floor, and window coverings, including minor plaster work.
• Adjusting and repairing all door hardware, including the door closure and locks.
• Repairing furniture and fixtures.
• Inspecting fire extinguishers and replacing units that are out-of-date, discharged or damaged with fully charged units.
• Performing minor carpentry work such as hanging mirrors and pictures, installing shelves, tightening loose signs and supports, repair handrails, trim wood doors, etc.
• Painting areas that require no more than two hours to paint.
• Performing minor electrical maintenance such as replacing light switches, ballasts, light fixtures, wall outlets, replacing fuses, etc. Conducting routine building inspections.
• Conducting periodic inspections of roofs and performing minor roof repairs. Having total responsibility of assigned area.

Core Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• The individual must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the State prior to appointment.
• The person must maintain such valid license during tenure of employment.
