Head of AI Systems

Role Description

Javvy is looking for a hands-on builder to architect the AI-powered operating system behind our business. As our Head of AI Systems, you'll work directly with the founders and leadership team to identify the highest-leverage opportunities across the organization and turn them into intelligent systems that:

• Increase company velocity
• Eliminate repetitive work
• Improve decision-making
• Protect margin

This is not a research role, and it isn't about experimenting with the latest AI tools just because they're new. Your mission is to build, deploy, and continuously improve AI systems that solve real business problems and deliver measurable impact.

You'll own the architecture, integrations, guardrails, and deployment strategy required to run AI in production across the company.

What You’ll Own

• Partner with the Co-Founders and business leaders to identify operational bottlenecks, repetitive work, and high-impact automation opportunities.
• Design, build, and deploy AI agents and intelligent workflows tied to measurable business outcomes.
• Build and maintain the orchestration layer that manages AI agents, workflows, and integrations.
• Integrate AI systems across platforms including Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Rippling, Ashby, GitHub, AWS, internal databases, and third-party APIs.
• Develop scalable AI infrastructure that enables teams to work faster without sacrificing quality or security.
• Establish guardrails around security, permissions, data privacy, monitoring, logging, and cost management.
• Measure ROI for every major automation initiative and continuously improve deployed systems.
• Document systems and help teams successfully adopt AI-powered workflows across the organization.
• Stay current on emerging AI capabilities and evaluate where they can create meaningful business value.

This role combines backend engineering, systems architecture, AI engineering, and operational thinking.

Within your first year, you will have:

• Deployed production-ready AI systems across multiple business functions.
• Eliminated hundreds of hours of manual work through automation.

• Built reliable AI infrastructure that teams depend on every day.
• Established clear governance, monitoring, and security standards for AI usage.
• Delivered measurable ROI through automation, productivity gains, and operational improvements.
• Created a scalable AI foundation that supports Javvy's continued growth.

Qualifications

• Experienced backend engineer with strong Python skills or experience in another modern backend language.
• Built and deployed production AI applications—not just prototypes or proofs of concept.
• Experience working with modern LLM platforms such as Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, or similar technologies.
• Understanding of AI agents, workflow orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), MCPs, prompt engineering, and tool integrations.
• Extensive experience building APIs, integrations, and cloud-based systems.
• Ability to move comfortably between engineering, product thinking, and business operations.
• Enjoy solving messy operational problems with practical technology solutions.
• Thrive in startup environments with ambiguity, ownership, and a fast pace.
• Naturally identify opportunities instead of waiting to be assigned work.
• Care more about measurable business impact than building flashy demos.

Bonus Points

• Experience building internal AI platforms or company-wide automation systems.
• Experience integrating AI into SaaS platforms and business operations.
• Familiarity with modern orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar tools.
• Experience working with vector databases, embeddings, and semantic search.
• Startup or high-growth consumer brand experience.
• Experience building systems that support cross-functional teams such as Operations, Finance, Marketing, Customer Experience, Supply Chain, or People Operations.
