Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Maintenance Repair Specialist 2 in the Facilities Operations in Residential Life. **This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding.** This position serves as the primary support to the supervisor in facility management operations and plays a key role in maintaining residential facilities. Responsibilities include assisting with project planning, inspecting contractor work for compliance with plans and specifications, helping develop maintenance policies and procedures, and providing input on facility needs and projected costs for budgeting purposes. The position may also provide direction and oversight to lower-level staff through training, work assignment, review of completed work, and performance feedback.

In addition to administrative and coordination responsibilities, this position is highly hands-on and will actively work in the field alongside department staff, Housing Environmental Services (HES), and student employees to complete service requests, repairs, projects, and preventative maintenance activities.

Required Qualifications

• This position requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades and one year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR
• One (1) year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

This position requires frequent lifting and moving of furniture, work in mechanical rooms that may be loud, dusty and have hazards present and working outdoors in inclement weather.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 31

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets.
