Exciting Opportunity: Graduate Assistant at the Madog Center for Welsh Studies (August 2027 - May 2029) The Madog Center for Welsh Studies at the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College, Ohio, USA, is seeking a Graduate Assistant to join our team from August 2027 to May 2029. About Us The University of Rio Grande is located in the beautiful rolling hills of southeastern Ohio, an area with a rich and distinctive Welsh heritage. The Madog Center is a vibrant educational and cultural centre dedicated to promoting the Welsh language and culture across North America. We are currently experiencing an exciting period of growth and development as we expand our Welsh language provision and build new academic programmes. We collaborate with a wide network of partners throughout Wales and North America to deliver high-quality educational and cultural opportunities. The Madog Center is the only centre of its kind in North America, offering a truly unique experience for those who join our team. The Role: Graduate Assistant We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and creative individual with excellent communication skills in both Welsh and English. Ideally, applicants will have studied through the medium of Welsh at a higher education institution in Wales. Experience in teaching, youth work, or community engagement would be advantageous, although full training and support will be provided. This is a part-time position, and the successful candidate will work as part of a small, welcoming, and dynamic team. Responsibilities will include: Teaching Welsh at least once per week. Delivering engagement activities across the university campus. Developing relationships with the local community, including schools. Supporting projects and events throughout the United States and Canada. Contributing to the wider work programme of the Madog Center. Supporting activities at the Welsh American Heritage Museum. Assisting with the organisation of the North American Festival of Wales. Managing and developing the social media presence of both the Madog Center and the Museum. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to: Study for a Master's degree at the University of Rio Grande. Gain valuable experience in teaching, community engagement and project management. Develop an international network of academic and cultural contacts. Travel throughout the United States and Canada as part of the Center's work. Represent Wales and the Welsh language on an international stage. Appointment to the position is contingent upon admission to a Master's degree programme at the University. As part of the scholarship package, the successful applicant will receive: Full tuition for a Master's degree. On-campus housing (single room in a residence hall).
