Payroll Specialist

Payroll SpecialistThe Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll for construction employees, ensuring accurate and timely compensation in compliance with company policies and labor regulations. This role includes calculating wages, overtime, and deductions; maintaining payroll records; and supporting certified payroll reporting for public works projects. The Payroll Specialist collaborates closely with HR, accounting, and project teams to verify hours, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.Primary ResponsibilitiesProcess payroll for hourly and salaried construction employees, ensuring accuracy and complianceCollect, review, and verify employee timesheets and work hoursCalculate wages, overtime, deductions, and benefits using ADPMaintain accurate payroll records, reports, and documentation for audits and complianceProcess full cycle payroll from new hire updates, time posting, payroll processing, to benefits fundingEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including FLSAPrepare, review, and submit certified payroll reports for public works and prevailing wage projects (DOL, TWC, etc.)Manage certified payroll submissions through systems such as LCP tracker or audit companies such as KPMGTrack and resolve reporting errors, rejections, and compliance discrepanciesVerify wage rates, labor classifications, fringe benefits, and deductionsMaintain certified payroll documentation to support auditsCollaborate with HR, accounting, and project teams to reconcile payroll and verify job codes, hours, and classificationsRespond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and discrepancies in a timely mannerAssist with payroll audits and resolve identified issuesSupport general payroll and administrative functions as neededStay current on payroll regulations, wage laws, and construction labor requirementsExperience and Skill RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field preferred3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in the construction industry, including rig pay, prevailing wage and labor classification reviewProficiency with payroll systems (ADP), timekeeping software, and Microsoft Office SuiteStrong knowledge of payroll laws and labor regulationsHigh level of accuracy in payroll calculations and reportingAbility to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies efficientlyStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenDemonstrated integrity, professionalism, and confidentialityStrong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and take initiativeHealth, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities:All employees are responsible for supporting Audubon Companies' Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
