Tutor - Pharmacy Technology - Part Time Malcolm X College

Malcolm X College is seeking a part-time tutor in the Pharmacy Technology department. The part-time tutor bridges the gap between the college and the needs of the student. This position also helps students make academic progress, while promoting independent learning and self-reliance.

The Pharmacy Technology Program at Malcolm X College supports students from the communities of Chicago to acquire a standard of academic knowledge in pharmacy which will allow them to practice in the profession as a certified pharmacy technician and/or acquire a level of understanding in pharmacy giving them the opportunity to also pursue the position as a pharmacist.

Essential duties include:

• Providing academic assistance to assigned tutees, either in a group or individually.
• Establishing liaison with the instructor and working under the instructor's direction to assist the student.
• Attending periodic training sessions given by staff members to increase competency in working with students.
• Maintaining records on each student who is being tutored, including follow-up and periodic assessment.
• Scheduling tutoring appointments.
• Providing evaluations and other reports as required by staff.
• Helping students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying and helping students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas.
• Assisting students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas.
• Helping students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.
• Establishing and maintaining rapport with the assigned students.
• Assisting in designing and implementing class cooperative projects.

Qualifications include:

• Completion of a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Pharmacy Technology. Consideration will be given to candidates who do not have a Bachelors degree but possess technical certification(s) necessary for the subject being tutored.
• Possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse student body.
• Must be self-directed and able to complete assignments in a timely manner.
