Behavior InterventionistThe Behavior Interventionist will assist with the provision of behavior intervention services for students who exhibit significant behavioral challenges which impede social development and academic success. The Behavior Interventionist will work directly with the Behavior Specialist to develop targeted strategies to reduce problematic behaviors and encourage productive behaviors through means such as positive reinforcement and will work closely with the individual and with others to assess the students behavior and create a specially designed plan.QualificationsMust Pass Fingerprint CheckMust Pass Physical Capabilities TestHigh School diploma or equivalentOne of the following: 60 College Credit hours; or Associates Degree or Higher; or Missouri Para Pro Assessment Passing Score (before 9/23/13) per DESE 6/22; or Missouri Para Pro Assessment Passing Score (after 9/23/13) per DESE 6/22; or Completed Missouri's 20 Hour online substitute training program and obtain substitute certificationParticipate in training activities as required by the DistrictStrong knowledge of working with students who struggle behaviorallyBIST trainedDemonstrate competence in functional behavioral analysis, behavior management skills and instructional skillsPossess certification in crisis intervention techniquesStrong problem-solving skillsPossess collaborative and interpersonal skillsExcellent written and oral communication skillsRequired ExpectationsBe punctual and have consistent and regular attendance.Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social and physical needs, as well as their education needs.Supports the mission of the Webb City R-7 School District.Supports the value of education.Complies with the privacy rights of students; safeguards confidential and/or sensitive information.Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.Be warm and nurturing with students.Be customer service oriented and professional.Provide excellent customer service according to the standard of the District.Works to meet goals of the department and District with a spirit of cooperation.Work collaboratively to develop strategies to reduce problematic behaviors in assigned buildings.Work closely with students and staffSupport building staff, behavior specialist, and administrators with the implementation of behavior improvement plans (BIP), BIST plans, and BIST continuum.Observe students, create interventions, and assist with implementing BIST plans and interventions for multiple suspensions in assigned buildingsCollaborate with behavior specialist and administrators about the needed professional development for the beginning of the year, recovery room processes, transportation processes, behavior staff training, BIST expectations, and refreshers.Assist with processes in the Recovery Room in assigned buildingsComplete functional behavioral assessments in assigned buildingsAttend and collaborate in BIST in buildings to discuss the fidelity of plans.Support recovery room staff.Essential Job FunctionsKnowledgeable of the social and emotional issues that elementary students face.Ability to determine the underlying causes of student misbehavior and how to improve those behaviors.Work with behavior specialist and building administration to determine severity of behavior.Ability to show compassion and at the same time hold students accountable for unacceptable behavior.Understand the position is a proactive approach to discipline; teaching and expecting proper behavior prior to the need for discipline.Assist a behaviorally struggling student throughout the school day, spending time with the student in the classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc. or wherever the inappropriate behavior is occurring.Communicate with classroom teachers and provide information on interventions that can be implemented in the classroom.Conduct direct observations of the student in academic and/or other relevant environments for the purpose of data collection and/or behavioral consultation.Assist staff with data collection required to conduct functional behavioral analysis (FBA) for the development of behavior intervention plans (BIP).Assist staff in the implementation of behavioral strategies.Work with behavior specialist to create behavior intervention plans (BIP).Work directly with students to teach and reinforce replacement behaviors.Maintain data on students served (This includes creation of ongoing data collection systems to establish baseline and ongoing progress for all students and analyzing data on a frequent and ongoing basis to guide programming decisions).Collaborate with behavior specialist to make recommendations to the Director of Special Education concerning the need to obtain additional medical, psychological and/or psychiatric information on an evaluation.Collaborate with outside agencies, parents and teachers to meet the need of students.Be a member of the screening team in a building as requested.Establish and maintain clear communication and cooperative working relationships with a variety of educators and groups.Models positive behavior for students (i.e. inter-personal communication, processes, social interactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing educational and life skills training.Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.Adhere to good safety practices.Ability to understand and adhere to all District rules, regulations and policies.All other duties as required or assigned.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:stand, walk, sit and talk/hear;occasionally required to reach with hands and arms;
