Mechanical Assembly Technician (Hybrid Workshop and Office)This role combines hands-on mechanical assembly of custom conveyor systems with office-based administrative and customer support tasks. You will independently build and test conveyors from blueprints, manage shipping and inventory, and handle quoting and order processing in a small, dynamic team environment. The position requires versatility, attention to detail, and the ability to move smoothly between workshop activities and back-office responsibilities.ResponsibilitiesBuild custom conveyors based on blueprints and drawings, including configuring base, width, and length to specified dimensions.Assemble mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as metal shears, grinders, and saws.Test conveyors and individual parts to ensure proper fit, function, and quality before shipment.Pack, tag, and book finished products into the system, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability.Prepare and pack parts for shipment, including labeling, documentation, and coordination with shipping carriers as needed.Perform inventory tasks when not building conveyors, including stock checks, organization of parts, and system updates.Assist customers by answering questions, providing product information, and updating system records with order and customer details.Prepare quotes for conveyors and parts, including gathering specifications, calculating costs, and entering data into office software.Process orders from quotation through to shipment, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.Use office software to manage documentation, maintain records, and support day-to-day administrative tasks.Adapt to a variety of workshop and office duties as needed, supporting a small team to meet project and shipment deadlines.Work occasional overtime when required to complete urgent projects or meet shipping schedules.Essential SkillsAbility to perform mechanical tasks and assemble mechanical components accurately and safely.Experience with, or strong willingness to learn, the use of metal shear, grinder, and saws.Ability to operate a forklift; certification is preferred, but training is available.Ability to read and follow blueprints and drawings for mechanical assembly.Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar office software for quoting, documentation, and record keeping.Capability to use hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly and fabrication.Comfort working in both workshop and office environments and switching between tasks as needed.Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and quality standards.Willingness to learn new tools, equipment, and software programs as part of ongoing training.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in mechanical assembly, especially with conveyors or similar equipment, is an asset.Familiarity with mechanical schematics and wiring is beneficial.Experience using grinders, metal shears, saws, and other mechanical tools in a manufacturing environment.Previous experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.Comfort working in a small team where independence and versatility are important.Interest in growing into a supervisory role as the team expands, based on performance and experience.Openness to cross-training in both workshop and back-office tasks to support overall operations.Why Work Here?You will join a technology-focused organization that develops high-quality, reliable material handling and framing solutions for a wide range of industries. You will work in a hybrid capacity, splitting time between workshop assembly tasks and office-based administrative work. The workshop environment involves using mechanical tools such as metal shears, grinders, saws, hand tools, and power tools, as well as operating forklifts. The office environment involves working with Microsoft Office and other software programs for quoting, order processing, and record keeping. Occasional overtime may be required to meet project or shipment deadlines. The setting is supportive and dynamic, offering close collaboration, hands-on learning, and exposure to modern conveyor and framing technologies.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
