Substance Use Counselor - UMKC Counseling Services

Job ID: 60618 Location: UMKC Volker Campus Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job Description UMKC Counseling Services The selected candidate will have a leadership role as the Liaison to our Conduct Office at UMKC, along with serving as a representative to a statewide Coalition, Missouri Partners in Prevention (PIP). The candidate will provide individual and group services to students experiencing a wide variety of presenting concerns, but should have an emphasis on substance use assessment and treatment. The candidate will provide trauma informed training related to substance use treatment modalities and collaborate on outreach programming on topics such as substance use, mental health, and other behavioral issues. The position also provides a full range of generalist clinical services including individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, assessment, supervision, and training. Service provision includes face-to-face and tele-psychological psychotherapeutic services to our community. The selected candidate must be prepared to provide services to an incredibly diverse, non-traditional student population. Essential Job Functions: Provides individual therapy, group counseling, crisis intervention, clinical supervision, outreach, and consultation services to the university community. Provides clinical services to diverse client populations and whose clinical work, supervision, and community intervention is infused with ethical and cultural humility and who demonstrates clear interest and commitment to all dimensions of diversity. Evidence of strong generalist clinical skills. Annually review strategic plan intervention process and outcomes and campus policies related to alcohol and drugs. Work with campus administration to create a report for a Biennial Review of the campus alcohol and drug program to meet federal requirements of the Drug-Free Schools Act. Carry out direct and indirect prevention strategies to reduce the risks and harms of alcohol and drug issues (facilitate special events, tabling, presenting to campus groups, social media campaigns, environmental strategies, etc.). Coordinate and implement BASICS consultations (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) for alcohol, marijuana, and other drug referrals received from campus. Demonstrates effectiveness in assessment and intervention with a wide range of clinical issues and complex diagnostic concerns. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental issues of non-traditional college students and commitment to student success. Outstanding interpersonal skills demonstrated in speaking, listening, and writing. Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in developing outreach education programming. Consults with faculty and staff regarding student problems, training, program and organizational issues. Represents Counseling Services on University committees and participates in the Division of Student Affairs programs as assigned. Demonstrates ability to work collegially and collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student organizations. Other duties as assigned. Shift The position requires rare evening and weekend hours (e.g., for new student orientations or specialized outreach programming). Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work and relevant licensure (or eligible to be licensed within 12 months) within the state of Missouri. Preferred Qualifications A Master's degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a Master's degree specifically in Addiction Counseling. Active full licensure as a Professional Counselor or obtain licensure in the State of Missouri within 12 months of hire is required. Active full licensure as a Professional Counselor or obtain licensure in the State of Kansas is preferred. Experience working with diverse populations including college age students. Experience working in a University/College setting. Clinical supervisory experience of Master's or Doctoral level trainees/interns. Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated minimum hiring range for this position has been established as starting at $65,000 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
