Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Eligible veterinary students of all class years are encouraged to participate in NVA externships, which typically range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Responsibilities Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe/assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. In addition, externs will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Compensation and Benefits Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. A comprehensive benefits program includes medical, dental, vision, a 401k with employer match, and paid time off (including sick time) for all eligible employees. For positions based in Colorado, additional paid sick and safe leave and public health emergency leave are provided in accordance with state law.
